Had a TT special rigged
for street use while in
high school. T'was one
cool motorcycle albeit
a cruel machine. None
the less we had many an
adventure. I Rounded off
every whitworth hex head
then traded it for a VW
square back.

Winston Churchill and Triumph
motorcycles left a great
impression on me. Churchill
died in 65 a year later my
tt special rolled of the assembly
line. 1972 marked the end of
Triumphs glory years, by 73
my Special gave way to more
reliable transportation, but I
never forgot, the man nor
the machine.

In the years to follow motorcycles
increased in size and complexity.
I suppose I became complacent
accepting the trend as the
wave of the future.

While having coffee one morning, I read a
review Cycle World published featuring the
new Thruxton. It seemed the very
machine my youth had squandered.
A naked motorcycle from the past.

A familiar voice whispered,
"We are stripped bare by the curse of plenty." *

I purchased the Thruxton
sight unseen with no regrets.

Merrill

Congrats on the Thruxton! For myself, it was everything associated with Triumph. The legend, a great looking machine, a classic thats not a cruiser. Great design, that works remarkably. A modern day classic. Its one of those rare things in life that is just Great and Affordable.

As Winston Churchill once stated: "What kind of people do they think we are?" Joe

Merrill -

Glad to see you & your excellent prose again... Haven't seen anything for awhile... was wondering where you and some others, TravThrux etc had got to.

I too saw the same issue of Cycle World and with similar thoughts bought one. It kinda inspired this:

12 Steps

Cheers, Cyn-

P.S. - I traded my '74 RD 350 for a Volkswagon Bug... small world huh ?

Amen to that, there is a undescribale feeling whilst riding the thruxton. It is a classic sport bike stripped of all its embellishments. I personally like all the aluminum bits, it gives the bike a real good look.

cheers, jason

I've always been a bit of a Churchill fan, myself. Isn't he the one who said, "He has all of the virtues I dislike and none of the vices I admire"? Now that's a man who has it figured out...
