After 1200 k on my America in one day, I have come to the conclusion the stock seat makes me a little sensitive.
I was able to get back on just long enough to find a Tack Shop. (Equestrian supply shop) To the satisfaction of my aching behind they sold me a black sheep skin seat cover.
Just for the record, a sheep skin cover made for a western riding saddle fits the America seat perfectly and the return ride was amazing.
The install is very easy, you remove the seat and the seat cover straps that are elastic are a perfect fit and it never changed the appearance of the bike at all.
Cost was $78.00 very well spent and whole lot cheaper than a new Corbin or Mustang seat would be.

I have used sheepskin before, and I have noticed a difference. My wife, however, swears by hers. I've heard this company makes some of the best seat covers:

After installing the sheepskin cover remember to hang squirrel tails from the handlebar end covers and a coon's tail from the taillight. You might also think about rigging some small antelope antlers above the headlight. Joe :-D :-D

Dag-gone it Joe, ya went and gave away all my ideas for my bike now :hammer:

on a more serious side I also use a sheep-skin when I'm going on a long trip with long days in the saddle, like a 3500 mile romp through the Rockies or someplace out east like to the east coast Sturgis rally..one of the best items in my garage..bought it way back in the 80s when I had a BMW K-100..everybody told me about how they helped so I got one, yep sure does help :-D

Glen, yeah, let em carry on - they probably don't do long enough rides to know what a pain in the butt it can be. When I lived in Western Australia a sheepskin was essential kit for serious touring for another reason! This won't trouble you in Alberta, but when riding in serious heat for 800 km or more in a day you just end up marinating in your own juice on a stock m/c seat - it's bloody uncomfortable, rubs yer ass raw, and stinks!!. A patch of sheep also stops pillions whining a bit. I had a excellent sheepskin seat cover on my 900 Trophy - made to fit and just wrapped tight round the seat - black and hardly noticeable except when you wanted to do some serious miles.
No good in a place where it rains much of course - I wouldn't bother here in NZ...
Function does Triumph over form a lot of the time...
cheers DrP

What these gents are saying about the sheepskin seat cover is true. It does provide comfort and is warm in the winter and cooler in the summer. I have seen several long distance riders mount these on bikes. I personally wouldn't put one on my bike unless I was wearing my gray, curly haired, goatskin chaps, brown buffalo robe, and camel hide Cossack hat. Joe :-D :-D
