I checked on the K&N website and found that they now make airfilters for Speedmasters but only from year 05.

http://www.knfilters.com/search/appsearch.aspx

Article number: TB8002

My first question is, are the filters different for the 790 engines compaired to the new bigger ones from 05? Or can I use this filter?

My second question is if the follwing combination would work:

TORs + K&N filter + snorkel removal + Thruxton pins ?

Or would the Thruxton pins make the mixture too rich even with the extra air from the K&N's?

It'll fit. Here's the thing about 3rd party manufacturers of accessories, and it can be decieving. Often they don't research the bike makers models to determine what years it will work with. So they just post whatever they know. K&N Likely just looked at the new bikes and built a filter for it and neglected to look at the older ones to see of they work with those, but they are the same.

Or another reason is they'll say "05" meaning every year of that model up to 05'. Then there are the ones who designed a part for the current year a few years ago and never bothered to keep up with checking each new year to see if they still fit. For example, they'll say 02' america but they never checked out the 03,04,or 05 to see if they fit. Either thru neglect or whatever. Yet most parts WILL fit them all because they've never changed since thier inception aside from a few minor things. And some will say "02" meaning 02 and up.

So the point is that pretty much any aftermarket part for a speedy or america will fit any year. The clutch dresser kit is one that i can think of that has to be a different one for some of the the 05's because they changed the casing a bit when they went to the 865 engine.

So yea, it'll fit i'm sure. just ask Brent if you wanna have peace of mind about it. he sells them and will know for sure.

Hard to say for sure, but i'd be inclined to say no. Mainly because those needles are very rich. Even my bike with thunderbike pipes, snorkel removed, uni filter and the bottom of the airbox drilled for double the input to the filter finds them just a hair under being too rich. I think your pipes are a big part of it because i believe TOR's don't flow as well as most aftermarket pipes. However it's cheap enough to try. Dowop did this to his 04' with snorkel removed and unifilter which should approximate your intake setup and they worked great for him. But again the pipe factor comes in because he too has thunderbike pipes.

Lantis,
I am of the belief, as are many others, that there is absolutely no increase in airflow with the K&N filters or the UNIFilter for that matter. They are simply re-usable filters.
In some cases they have even been reported to decrease the airflow.
I used to have a Uni oin my 03 SM but wnet back to the stock paper and it ran better. The paper filters have a larger surface area as well.
I now have the K&Ns because I removed my airbox, but would not hesitate to go back to paper filters if they were available in the configuration I presently run.

Not from my experience Dinqua, but who knows why. All i know is there was a definate tho slight improvment which tells me my uni did add airflow. But i wasn't after the improvment from the filter alone, but for the increase flow so i could jet richer and i did. maybe it depends on how much you oil them. I oiled it lightly and maybe thats why.
