So I purchased a set of xenon-krypton lights from Brent. I took off the casing, but how do I remove he light from the casing so I can install the new bulbs?

I am totally funtionally illiterate when it comes to this.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

OK, I'll give it a shot--I take it you do not have a service manual.

I have no idea what you mean by "casing"--if you mean the headlight shell, it should stay mounted to the bike.

What you are trying to accomplish is to remove the "front part" (called the headlight rim) which contains the bulb so you can get at the bulb from the back side. The screw you see at the front edge of the headlight is the horizontal adjustment screw--LEAVE IT ALONE! The screws you are looking for are back on the headlight shell about 1 inch from the front (this is from memory--my bike is not handy right now) and I believe there are two of these screws. Remove them and the front part (headlight rim) will come out so you can disconnect the wiring connector from the headlight bulb and the connector from the "sidelight" bulb (this is the small connector). Now the headlight rim is free from the bike and you can sit and work on it.

Remove the rubber cover from the rear of the reflector. Release the retaining clip and remove the bulb. Install the new bulb insuring its tabs are correctly located in the reflector slots. Secure the bulb in position with the retaining clip. NOTE: Don't touch the bulb lens with your hands while handling it.

Put the rubber cover back on. Connect the wiring connectors and seat the headlight rim into the headlight shell and install and tighten the screws.

Good Luck, and purchase a service manual, next--it is handy for all sorts of small and big things you will want to do to your bike. :-D

When you get it swapped out, be sure and give us an update as to the performance of the light. I change my stock light out for a sealed beem car headlight and it is an improvement over the stock headlight. I am still interested in the bulbs that you have purchased.

I replaced the stock bulb with the xenon-krypton bulb. I felt very weak once the light was on, but then I remembered I was not Superman.

Anyway, did some laser, cataract surgery with the light later on.

The light is freakin' bright. And of course it's blue.

I would recommend the light.

Redbird- My '05 America came with a sealed beam with the parking light in it, sounds like you are describing something else. I swapped mine out for a Sylvania Silverstar sealed beam (auto bulb), man, what a difference. Lost the parking light feature, never used it anyway. I can now ride with low beam, factory low beam was useless.

LT,

Yeah, I should have looked closer at the bike of discussion. My service manual is pretty good through '04, but after that one needs the newer version. Mine says the same procedure is used to replace the headlight bulb for the T-100, Std, BA, and Speedmaster even though the headlight construction is a little different on the latter two.

Hope your sealed beam headlight is an improvement over earlier years! Just reread your post--sounds like the original sealed beam was just as bad as earlier years! Glad you solved your problem, economically. I wound up getting motolight running lights to get enough light for riding.
