I went to the Triumph site for the UK and looked up the Bonneville T100 and it gave an OTD price of 5,799 pounds. I then converted this to dollars...5,799.00 GBP United Kingdom Pounds = 9,964.20 USD United States Dollars! Sheesh! Are the British bikes packing something the American one's aren't? How can they be so much over there? I was thinking they's be less expensive. So much for picking one up over there in my travels :-D .

You are right, bikes are much more expensive in Europe than in the US..

But keep in mind that prices include the VAT ( variable depending the country)

The Exchange rates ( and the coverage policy ) and the marketing policy are affecting the prices too..

For example recommended retail price Vat included for a T100 is 8350€ in Germany and 8790€ in France ... But there is still room for negociation..

One pound is worth approximately a quid.

Seriously though, I work in motorsport and deal with the USA on a regular basis. Normally, if I see a price in dollars I can gues that by the time it gets to me the price will be the same but with a £ sign instead of the $. We get royally fleeced for everything.

It does seem a bit strange that bikes shipped halfway round the world end up in dealers shops selling for a lot less than dealers a few miles down the road from the factory!

I bought a one year old T100 from a dealer in the summer with 1800miles on the clock with lots of extras on it for £4500 which is about £1200 less than a new one here but a lot more than you would pay in the States I reckon.

What's a Pound worth? Not a lot!! When we were allowed handguns in UK I used to pay Pound for Dollar for all shooting gear from the USA. Same still goes for camera gear. Harley's new cheap big twin Street Bob (I think) £8750 in UK otr. And you have to buy stuff to start ridding it. Seems like UK made bits for Bonnie's are cheaper in USA as well.. We are your poor cousins over here!!!!!! RR :???: :???:

A lot of stuff is more expensive over there. Especially hotels and fancy restaurants. I took some people to dinner in London to a nice place for business and the bill was 500 pounds for four people.

On the other hand they sell fried fish and french fries for pretty cheap so it depends on where you go. Pubs also have good deals on food subsidized by the beer companies.

I was over there in England and Germany for three weeks once and maxed out one credit card and about half of another one. That was basically just hotels and meals.

It is expensive, but money machines make getting the right amount of cash real easy.

You also have to love the "no-tipping" practice. That was a welcome change.

One year we spent time in London (stayed in Paddington), and then another year we spent time in Edinburgh (my wife was studying there a semester). Both places were awesome, Edinburgh has fantastic fish and chips, and I'm a huge fan of good beer.

Vehicles are much more expensive over there. Especially luxury cars. One of my work associates who was English and ran the whole European Operations for EMI (who I used to work for) came over to the states in the early nineties. I gave him a ride in a brand new Porsche 968.

He was completely shocked that I would be able to afford such a car which I think in the UK was selling for something like $60K.

But typically they give you car allowances over there so your vehicles are all paid out of the company till. And not just the salesmen who need to drive. Basically many mid level managers get company vehicles. Because I worked for an English company I even had a $450 per month car allowance and did not need to buy my own insurance. The company insurance covered the car.
