Daz, that looks freakin' great.. Nice way to spend Turkey Day!

I've used the Mother's polish on various alum parts before & thought it worked great.. I haven't used Semichrome before so I can't give a comparison... No doubt you'll be giving us an update on the best polish for the job though.

Great Work
I don't know if it's the polish after all. Semichrome has always been my favorite.i think it's the fact i need to use a wheel. the dremel i tried before giving up on it and doing it by hand is a cordless that does 10k RPMs and my corded one does 35k. It did nothing. So tonite i tried the corded dremel a piece of aluminum and it made it look like a friggin' mirror even without semichrome, just car wax. (ran out of SC)So tomorrow i'm getting some more SC and bringing the bike in back of the apt. where i can get an A/C cord out to it and use the corded dremel on it. if the results are like on that test piece it'll come out looking like exactly like chrome if not even more reflective. I'll post a pic if it comes out as good as i think it will. This polishing is addictive. now i'm scanning the bike for more victims. :-D

dazco - go even finer on the final wet and dry sanding - 3000 grit - this will greatly reduce the amount of polishing needed to remove fine scratches. I used wenol's - first the red tube -courser, and then the blue tube polish. Used an electric drill with cotton buffing wheels from home depot. I've used this method on my cam cover, engine covers, shifter, brake pedal, fork lowers, headlite mounts and various other parts on the Thrux. JCW

3000?! where'd ya find that? Even the automotive paint supply places i used to have to go to to find superfine wet and dry never had higher than 2000. I think i'm gonna be fine as is tho since i realized the dremel thing. I'll know in a couple hours. But if it doesn't work i'll see if i can find 3000.

I think they work about the same Dazco only Mothers is faster at taking off the oxidation. I use it mostly when I'm waxing . When it comes to using compounds to polish with a wheel of some kind nothing works better that aluminum polishing compound not rouge and they cost the same. I have five different polishing compounds and five different wheels. You never want to mix compounds on the same wheel. I have Tripoli, Rouge, stainless, aluminum and plastic compounds not to mention various others paste types. I guess I'm trying to tell you to buy both Semichrome and Mother's. If all I had was aluminum to polish I'd definitely buy Mother's but you like to polish stainless as well so buy semichrome to do both jobs.

At time I look at the bike and think” I am sure that would look great” BUT then I think “Yea but what if I stuff it up”. Then I need to wait around 6 weeks for a replacement part and have to look at my mess all that time. Oh …. Decisions, decisions

Wind, I know Thrux Ton Up rides his bike and I saw a pic of the pink outfit his beautiful wife wears while she details his bike,so just for the sake of appeasing us mere mortals, I asked for a bug or waterspot. :-D

Couldn't find anything higher than 1500 paper. So i got that and a new tube of SC and used the corded dremel then finished it off by hand. looks even better now. I'm done. Now i'm just waiting for my chrome cam cover and i can them mount the bike in a glass case. After all, riding it could end up with a bug or something on it, and i've worked too hard to chance that. :-D
