BonnieBlack - to me that is the correct answer. Jaso-Ma certification.

Just remember to use something that is for motorcycles with a wet clutch. Mobil 1 uses a different additive package for their automotive oils vs their motorcycle oils. Motorcycle oils do not use friction modifiers either, which allows for better fuel economy and a better feeling and longer lasting clutch.

I use Mobil1 because that's what my bikes handbook recommends. But I suppose there is little difference in premium brands.
I do have a question:
Currently I'm using 10W-40. Is there any benefit in switching to a different weight?

Factory manual specs 10/40 or 15/50. Down in LA you might go up to the heavier weight. I've been using 20/50 up here in Wisconsin, and I do enough cold morning starts I should probably step down to the 10/40. I figure warming the engine up with thick oil is probaby a bigger concern than the oil being too thin at full temp. Just from my gut, uncomplicated by actual information or knowledge.
Oil wieght is a bigger deal than brand I'm sure. I'm not loosing a lot of sleep over it though.

Learned my lesson the hard way and had to replace the clutch in a PC800 by using the wrong stuff. Now I go by the book.

Now then , i use the Castrol Power 1 - 4T 10w-40 semi Motorcycle oil ( JASO MA-2 - API SJ ) And do not have any problems with it at all . ( 10 winter - 40 ) Thin in winter - thick in summer , but its always cold hear and raining most of the flipping time . We had a summer here last year but only for two weeks and then the rain started again .. And now we are having a hose pipe ban ? ... Why ? its still raining , so who nicked all the water then ? ....

JASO-MA rescinded?
I too, had been a regular of Mobil 1 V-Twin 20W-50 since break-in in 2009. Last fall when I went to the auto parts store to get my next 4 quarts, I noticed that Mobil had redesigned the container for the V-Twin oil - no big deal, happens all the time, right? I read the back of the container, saw that the API Service rating was still there, but the JASO-MA rating was nowhere to be found. Mobil still made the claim that the stuff was still appropriate for wet-clutch bikes but I couldn't find the JASO-MA anywhere on the bottle. Has anybody else noticed this?

Yes I did recently - bought the 10-40 - that's what I was shopping for anyway.
