A solution I can't offer, but encouragement I may........
I'm really short, really fat, have stubs for arms, and lower back problems. I'm old now, and my elbows, knees, and shoulders remind me of how old I'm becoming.
My experimenting with handlebars, their angles, positions, with and without risers, and swapping them out to entirely different bars has proved something to me.
HANDLEBARS AND THE RESULTING SITTING POSITION IS EVERYTHING!
Before the BonnieBlack, I put a quick 6,000 miles on a Sprint RS. The clip-ons didn't work for my stubs, so I ordered a kit from LSL that allowed me to convert to traditional bars. The Superbars that came with the kit were sexy as all get out, but they put my whole body into a position that had me screaming out in discomfort both on and OFF the bike?!?!? For two months, my lower back was tweaked...... and not even my chiropractor could address the problem.
I learned how to understand the measurements that are used to describe handlebars, and came to a conclusion based on what I had, and what I thought I needed. This is the ONLY time in my life that a calculated stab in the dark netted me some handlebars from Cycle Gear that worked!!!!!
My elbow, shoulder, and lower-back pain all went away in ONE RIDE with my new handlebars in place. You woulda thought I just had a "laying on of hands" PRAISE THE LORD!
Learn how to measure your current bars. Then sit on your bike with a slight convex bend to your back, place your hands where they might be comfortable, bend your shoulders, BE REALISTIC about this...... don't mimic Ape Hangers! Notice the angle of your wrists, and then compare the correct measurements of your bars, with what you think might worked. I did it and got lucky in ONE SHOT! If you meditate on this for a while, learn how the measurements are used on bars, then find some bars that most closely resemble what you think might work for you, YOU TOO might get lucky!
Someday I may replace these sexy M-bars w/risers that I'm sporting, with the same bars I had on the RS IF they can be had in one inchers..........
Good luck, and don't give up!
