Hi all
I have just noticed on my 2000km old 05 Speedmaster (why the hell it took me than long to notice i will never know????) that the chain adjusters are fully to the rear. As in there appears to be no more room for adjustment left in the chain as the axel is fully to the rear. Since the bike has only had one service i can only presume that it come like that from the factory.
Is this the normal?
Thanks
Wayne

You actually have some more adjustment, you'll see if you have to adjust your chain. With the 16 tooth front sprocket it does move the axle farther back. I went to a 17 tooth sprocket (America stock) for highway cruising, the tensioner looks more normal with that sprocket.

Oz, I would hate to think that your chain has stretched that far so soon, so it must be that the chain was simply too long to start with. You have a couple of choices. Assuming that the chain was in fact too long, you could purchase a new one the correct length, or better yet, remove one or possibly two links. If you were considering gearing it up higher, by adding a new countershaft sprocket one tooth larger, you will move the axle forward enough to regain usable adjustment space. If the chain did stretch and there was no damage done to either sprocket ( mis-shaped or bent teeth ) , then you can still get by with removing one or more links. If you damaged the sprockets, you need to replace them and the chain. Putting a new chain on damaged sprockets will wipe out a new chain fast. Conversly, a bad chain will do in good sprockets, but not as quick. Good luck. Dan

I wouldn't be surprised if your bike came with the wrong chain. Mine came from the factory with the wrong clutch cable, it was too short and burned the exhaust pipe. The dealer didn't believe me at first but after rattling some brains down there they finally agreed and put on a new stock length cable which was a little longer. I would take it back to the dealer and tell them about it. They should replace it on warranty. It sound like from the post's here that you have a chain off of an America. If anybody knows the difference in chain length's between all the model's this would be a good time to chime in. That would give Wayne some ammo when he takes it back. Good luck with that.
