I have only 980 miles on my 05 Bonnie America since buying it in August. Seating position and looks are what got me interested in it in the first place. Haven't been on any road trips yet, but have had it on the highway a few times and up to 70MPH. It is very smooth and almost no vibration, but it sure does seem like anything past 60MPH is really pushing it, but my inexperience could be a factor there.

Check out Motor Cruiser magazine (Oct 2005 issue, pages 49-52). Author talks at length about his experience with the 05 America on a road trip. Article was of course mostly about the road trip, but author concludes, "Overall, the America makes a fine touring bike...." Also see the December issue of Motorcycle Cruiser magazine, page 72. It is a short follow-up on the America at 2500 miles. Very favorable press. To quote the author, "So far the America has proven to be the perfect bike for me in nearly every respect. Will it continue to be so? Only time and mileage will tell, but my money says yes. Stay tuned."

Gerry.

Lovin every minute of it!!

70 MPH for your bike is just barely breathing ! Mine felt like that too, but it's only because 1)you aren't used to it, 2)when it breaks in it will feel different to a degree, and 3)the nature of these motors is such that they run best at higher RPMs. Funny thing about them.......when i first got mine i felt it was winding too much at 50MPH. Now i feel it's just cruising effortlessly at 80. Give it a chance and you'll see. These motors are different than most others and you just have to give yourself a chance to get used to it and for it to break in and loosen up. I can cruise forever at 85 and the bike just purrs like it's happy. And mine is geared LOWER than the america !

Just get, ride and be happy. Yeah and love every minute. There aren't many America Riders from what I've seen, so go out and let everyone else drool at yours.
It will be happy at 70, but you're just running it in at the mo, so have patience. If in 6 months and 5k on it and it's not happy take it back and question why it's not!
Just out of interest for you, I parked mine next to a SM at the local bike show, and mine got more looks than the SM!!

Wow discussions on Americas!! :
