Has anyone out there had any problems with their chain guard ? I have broken 3 in only 16K and it is starting to really piss me off. The guard breaks across the rear mounting screw and then just flaps arond until it is removed. My bikeshop says that they have never heard of it happening to anyone else so I was just wondering if it has. Would love to hear from anyone with the same problem or anyone who might have a solution :???:

This actually happens a lot on Speedy/America's. I replaced my OEM fasteners with stainless, allen-head bolts. I always use Blue Locktite and have never had either come loose. I had my factory guard chromed. The chrome accessory guards the dealer sells seemed to be very flimsy.

Just replace the screws/bolts with stainless steel items and use medium grade locktite

The guard has been breaking without the screws working their way loose so I dont know if the locktite will make any difference. One of my mates has an America which is the same age but has had no problems !

I have had 2 of them break in the same place as yours with the screw never coming loose. In fact the screw is still in place with a small piece of the chain guard securely fastened in place. the first was replaced under waranty. Out of waranty now so i am just going without. it lets people see more of that expensive gold side plate chain.

Damboy { Fathead } and his bike can be viewed in Niso's Member Maintained Photo Album which is well worth a look.

... I've never had a problem... But I don't carry any riders...

If you carry riders, perhaps they are causing the breakage by putting pressure on it from their heels... Or, you've changed shocks or the length of the shocks and something is forcing it horizontally.

Seems to me, this is the best way for this to happen. I really can't put together any logical reason for the guard to flex otherwise.
