I just installed the Thruxton needles,no shims.
Sure did make a difference.
I went from the stock needles with one shim.
I will have a unifilter in the next day or two.
My current setup is.
AI Removed.
Tbike pipes.
Snorkel removed.
125 mains.
Air screws 4 turns.
I will have the bike dynoed again in the next couple of weeks if the weather holds out.

Anything like removing the snorkel, or just a noticable amount? I'm ordering TBS needles tomorrow. I may also rejet because it seems like the needle taper overlaps the mains area quite a bit, and i've heard some say the mains need to go down in size if they aren't already too lean. You might have noted i already started a thread asking that.

Dazco,
It feels to be as just as much of a improvement as when I removed the snorkel.
I may be wrong, but I think the Thruxton needles may even run richer than the TBS needles.
The bike really runs stronger all the way.
It ran good before, these needles really make a noticeable difference.

Great. i f the TBS give me as much of a gain as removing the snorkel i'll be one happy boy. I'll probably go with the TBS since most of the BA guys went with those and the one i read about who tried the thruxtons wasn't too thrilled with them, yet almost every TBS user said they worked great. Whatever the reason they worked so well for you i have no idea. But from all i read the TBS seem to be the way to go. Tho now you got me thinking. I'll have to do some more searching tonite at BA and see what comes up with "thruxton needles".

What does TBS stand for?? I thought it was Triumph Bonneville Speedmaster but you wouldn't buy the same needles that you already have.

I think they stand for Thunder Bird Sport.
That is the discontinued triple.

yep. And from what i hear some places only sell they 3 at a time since they're for the triple cylinder thunderbird sport. Luckily the place i'm getting them from sells them seperatly.

Dazco,
This from Dinqua.
Benny,
I currently run with the TBS needlse, Triumph part #T1241024.
I have a set of the Thruxton needles I am going to try if the snow ever melts away.
I Will get the part# tonight when I get home if you want it. The needles are about $6 each so no biggie.
The main difference is the taper on these needles. Our stock needles are basically nails with straight sides and minimal taper to them. The TBS needles are slightly longer but have a very definite taper to them. I ran a dyno and got a minute dip in the 3500-4k range and them put in the TBS needles to eleviate this. It feels way better and actually may be running a tad rich now. I am going to go the big bore route next month whilst laid up for the ice age and will then try the Thruxton needles with that setup. They seem to be a bit slenderer with similar taper compared to the TBS'ers, which appears they will give even more gas. I will keep ya posted to the results after this is all done. I will have to let it break in first then get it dynoed again for poops and grins.
Sigh, only 6 more months of winter here in the great white north. 3' of snow, my snowplow guy coming by everyday now and sometimes twice, -5°F, but hey, the suns actually out today and it's gonna warm up to 9°F by this afternoon! Yahoo, a heat wave, lets go swimming!

Yea, i just got done reading that and many other archived threads with a search for "thruxton" at BA. I still see the same thing....TBS is the way to go unless you have a freak and or big bore kit. It seems the thrux needles are too rich for a lot of bikes that aren't highly modded. again, why you got such good results i dunno, but good for you in any case. But i think i gotta try the TBS and then try shimming them too. Between the needles by themselves and shimmed i should at least get an idea if thruxtons could be better. If i get a boost like snorkel removal i'll be done tuning with the possible exception or a uni filter. But that much extra power over where i am now would be all i could ask for. I'm pretty happy right now, but to get rid of that flat spot i seem to notice in the midrage here and there would put me right where i've wanted it since the day i got it. (not that anything interesting thaqt comes up here won't pique my intrest thereafter
