When i added a shim to my speedy it showed a much improved low/midrange. Then i added 2 shims and at a couple points it stalled as i was coming to a stop. Pull in the clutch after downshifting at about 10-15 mph and instant death. Starts right up tho, no problem. So i decided to go back to one because 2 shims seemed to run no better than one. I rode probably 15-20 miles since then and no problems till today when it did it again. Could it run so much better If it's too rich to the point where it stalls like that? Do you think turning the mix screws in from 3 to 2 turns would help at all? I hate to lose the much improved midrange by removing the shims.

Have you tried the TBS needle? Many folks (including me) report that it fixes the midrange issue....

Daz: Did you up the size of your pilot jet? I know Dinqua has counseled staying with the stock size. Stock pilot jet with one shim, then some fiddling with the mixture screw? Oh, the fun of tuning...

No. Just the mains and snorkel removal with Tbike pipes.

A shimless TBS or Thruxton needle might do the trick, then. I'm sure you've tried backing off by quarter turns on the mix screws as well. If the idle's good at 2.75, 2.5, maybe that's where she wants to be.

Actually no, thats why i asked. I was wondering if leaning out the mix with the screws would help, but to just do it could take forever since every time i turn another 1/4 turn i may have to drive 50 miles before it does it again. So i just figured i'd ask before bothering. I mean, will turning the screws in lean out the midrange at all? I've read where they affect the entire range a bit and i've also read they only affect idle to 1/4 turn, so what to believe?

What the Big Boys say:
1. Get the Main jets sized properly.
2. Get mid-range needles spaced properly (could include changing needle profiles).
3 Adjust your pilot circuitry.
Sounds like you may be ready for step 3 to me. :-D
You're never through once bitten. You can do steps 2 and 3 many times...let's see how would it run if I changed the needle profile...maybe a shim or two on the new needle...idle circuitry needs more adjusting. Is the cold Wx causing some of my problem? Will airbox removal really help an 865 engine? What size main jets should I start with after airbox removal? Should I wait till next spring?
Hang in there Daz, we're rooting for ya.

Daz, I hate to ask, but since I've been known to forget a screw or connection here and there, is your TPS jobbie connected?

Daz,
Love yor post cause I am still learning..
However, very close to recommending some type of medication such as you lose your tools for at least 1,000 miles.
