I'm thinking of going with some bars that are higher up and further back than the stock bonneville bars. I'm hoping to ease some neck and wrist discomfort I feel on longer rides. Anyone have any comments or recommendations? I've seen several different bars and read their descriptions but I'm looking to hear about real world experience. I've also read that the bar risers can adversely affect handling - true? If not, they sound like they might help.
Thanks.

I would get really sore shoulders with my stock bars. I got a set of Genmar risers, it really helped. I didn't notice any difference in handling at all.

As for new bars, I have wondered the same thing myself. These ones seem to have potential, but they are spendy once you get the longer cables....

Google "jim's Spacers"

He sells one inch risers for $27.00 delivered! Nice quality!

I put em on my bike and find them just what the doctor ordered............No handling issues what so ever. The glenmars are one and a half inch but are not very attractive (inmo) and cost around $79.00.

Thanks. How about new bars, like the M bars or the western bars? (Copper: bellacorse has western bars that do not require new cables).

How about grips (forgot to ask about that before)?

Also, are there any other risers not specifically for the bonneville that would work? Like something like this, perhaps: http://www.harpermotoguzzi.com/handlebar_risers.htm
?

Thanks.

I have just fitted Genmar risers this mornig and been out for a 50+ mile ride. Much more comfortable. No handling issues up to maximum speed and if anything the low speed handling is improved. Relativly cheap and very easy to fit. Highly recomended.

if you want something higher the m bars won't work for you. i just put a set on my bike. they will lay you down closer to the tank. i love the way they feel and the steering response seems quicker now. i got tired of feeling like a big sail when riding on the highway with the stock bars.

where do you ride? if you want to meet up and ride sometime let me know. you can at least check out the clearance on the m bars and another guy i ride with has the super bars. if he's around you could see how those look too.

I live in Arlington and have been going for longer rides out west and north generally along the Potomac. Would love to meet up some time for a ride. Also, there is a local Triumph club that meets up on Capitol Hill on the weekends and organizes a lot of events; not sure if you know about them.

yeah i've gone on a few rides with the dc rat guys at the beginning of the year but have mainly been riding in VA and MD the last few months. never made it to an official meeting though. they are nice guys and fun to ride with.

i usually met up with one or two other bonnie owners on sundays in old town.

I have the Bellacorse Western bars on my T100, after trying the M bars. The M bars were beautiful, but for my 5'7" height, the reach was uncomfortable. The Western bars are similar to the stock bars, but much more flowing, and for me, quite comfortable. I have a pair of NOS Beston Gran Turismo grips on, and am extremely satisfied with them. The only source I have been able to find for these, in the 1" diameter, is an ebay dealer:
http://stores.ebay.com/ClassicCyclePartsdotcom

This dealer has been quite good as far as price ($9.95--cheap for these) and they seem to often list them. You need the 5.25" grips for 1" bars (1 and 1/8 on the throttle side). Note that it is difficult, though not impossible, to mount these with bar end mirrors. Aside from the shape, which is quite comfortable, they are grippy, so I find that I can ride for hours with the wrist cramp that plagued me after an hour with the stock grips. Bellacorse also sells "football grips" that are similar.

Bear in mind that what works for one rider may be wrong for another. Since many of us on this forum are less limber than when we first started riding, issues like grips and bars, and seat modifications, become pretty important.
