Does anyone know how much one would pay for a replacement gas tank?, no color in particular.
I can't find one online, and the dealer put me on hold for like 10 minutes before I hung up.

$750 seems like an awful lot for that rather uncomplicated tank. I had to buy a couple of Harley tanks, which were a lot more complicated and finished, and my recollection is that they were about $600.
So much for replacing my black tank with an aluminum silver one.

$750...that's almost 10% of the bike cost. Is it a custom paint job?

Just spend $250 and have yours painted whatever color you like.

Thats what they quoted me too give or take a bit. At one point i had asked the parts dept at the dealer i bought my speedy from because i thought at the time i'd prefer last years yellow. So while a speedy tank may be different, it 's apparently about the same cost. They told me i'd get soem discount which if i recall amounted to about 10%. But yep, they're expensive. It shouldn't be suprising tho because most any car or bike manufacturer charges an arm and a leg for any parts that aren't available via aftermarket manufacturers.

See, the problem is, I have a dent in the tank that came from "who knows where" and it's small but a real eye sore. The only paintless dent repair places here in Denver are not able to get to it. I thought it would be real sharp looking to buy one of the '06 silver tanks and paint the top half black. It would be a nice black and silver two tone on the black engine!!!

You could always have a shop bondo and paint it just as you want. In fact, if you're any good with photoshop you should be able to create and print out a pic of how you want it so they can nail it. I would imagine it shouldn't cost near as much as a new tank, and especially not as much as a new tank AND having it painted as you wanted. probably a $300-400 job i would imagine.

Since your tank has a dent to repair, It will be cheapest to have it repaired and painted. The final coat has to be catalized clear urethane so that a gas spill will not damage it. I would expect 300 to 500 depending on complexity of repair and color scheme. Look for people that do bikes or helmets. good luck-T1
