I'm considering either the new Scrambler, or converting an older Bonnie with more ground clearance etc, and was wondering if anyone has ever weighed the standard Bonnie wheels (less tyres)?

I've been given weights by a wheel builders in the UK for some replacement alloy rims, and was wondering how much difference they would make to the unsprung weight against the standard chromed steel rims.

Any drop from the 205kg would probably be helpful :-D but I'm not trying to reach the level of my NX650.

Cheers

Ben

Sam -

The rear hub assembly is so stinkin heavy, that losing a few grams on the wheel will probably get lost in translation. Just get something strong, if your really gonna ride it "off-road"

Actually, dropping a "few grams" on the rims can have a much larger effect than dropping weight at the hub. That's because of
Angular Momentum

Think about starting to swing a weight on the end of a rope over your head. A lighter weight is easier to get moving and easier to stop. Also, easier to change directions too.

A good set of lightweight "superbike" rims will cost racers $5000 or more.
