It just seems to confirm all the reports we see here of people going from brand X to a Triumph twin and raving about how much more fun and how much more personality they have. I've had a dozen or so bikes, some i loved. But none makes me smile like the speedy. that graph would mirror my feelings perfectly. We are a lucky bunch, aren't we? :-D

since i have to wait to at most 5 months to get my bonnie i have to ask about something.
how suited is the standard bonnie for going down a dirt trail in the woods? im not talking dirt bike ramps or anything but cutting across a feild or open woodlot.

AcidKat...the new Scrambler option might be a better choice than the Standard Bonnie, but you're still looking at about 500 lbs of bike. I don't know what the clearance on the cruisers are and if they would be suitable.
Having said that, I used to have a Honda CB 350 with street pipes which I rode in the desert and across the occasional shallow creeks all the time and never had a problem other than the few spills I had and picking the bike back up again.

If you think about it, Honda, V-stars riders etc . for the most part are looking toward a HD so they are less satisfied, HD sportster riders are probably looking toward bigger HDs, BMWs are a mix since they look a lot like crotch rockets but the riders are older and probably still yearn for a more traditional bike. There really isn't anything similar to a Bonneville anymore. As for riding on rougher terrain, I would only change out the tires and feel fine with the bike. I guess I'm also not into a lot of polishing etc. and few dings don't bother me all that much as long as I'm the one that puts them on the bike. Sure it is heavy, just don't ride it like it is a dirt bike.

So right. Back in the day you could buy a Honda 450 that was a nice twin that would even beat a Triumph in quickness. You could get a Norton, a BSA, a Yamaha 650, and if i recall Kawasaki even has a TRiumph clone back ten like the one they have now. There were other choices too including some exotic bikes like the Laverda. But in any case you're so right. There's little other choice right now but Triumph if you want a twin. Sad because it's my fav style, but good because it leaves us with bikes that are even more unique.

The Bonneville's what I like to call a motorcycle-flavored motorcycle.

I prefer beer-flavored beer, not these funky raspberry stouts and apricot-infused Magic Hat Number 9 concoctions. I also prefer coffee-flavored coffee (HATE the hazelnut-flavored stuff!). So it stands to reason I'd like a motorcycle-flavored motorcycle.

I have an 04 Thruxton not a Bonnie and live in the far north of New South Wales (Australia) where we have a heap of dirt and gravel roads. I can assure you that the Thrux is an absolute SOB on the dirt. The front end slides out under the mildest of braking and the rear end has a mind of its own at all times.

I guess the clip ons, rear set pegs and shorter wheelbase don't help but I avoid the dirt as much as I can.

If I save my pennies it's the Scrambler for me. I wanted to buy one of the 350 cc ones they promised in 1972 but they never eventuated in this country. The new one has pretty much similar styling but a serious donk. Bring it on
