Just found out by talking to previous owner that the Bonnie I recently bought was traded in to the dealer with TOR pipes, carbs re-jetted and needles lifted.

When I bought it the TOR pipes had been switched by the dealer back to stock pipes - and he tried SOOO hard to sell me the TORs for an extra £300 but I couldn't afford them

So I'm running around with the carbs all set up for TORs and stock pipes - am I going to wreck the engine????? What's the worst this is going to do to my bike????

If I buy the TORs and as they aren't strictly road legal does it invalidate my insurance. I'm worried someone backs over it or something stupid and the insurance company walk away!!

I ould think that you wouldn't be risking damage at all since jetting for pipes usually requires going UP in jet size which makes it richer. And it's too lean that can do damge while too rich can just cause fouled plugs or lousy running at worse, as far as i know.

As to the insurance question, i'm sure they can and will use any excuse to void your insurance in tha case of an accident when they have to pay out. The question is, will they inspect your bike for stock pipes? I would imagine that depends on the perticular case. If YOU caused an accident that caused huge damage such as injeries or death and your ins co has to pay, they may well look closely at the bike to find an out. Just my thoughts...i have nothing to back it up, but it makes sense that if the other party caused the accident your ins has no reason to look at your bike's legal state. In fact, wouldn't that be foolish on thier part because then they have to drop you and lose that $. I'm sure they'd prefer to keep collecting your $ and only drop you if and when it's finacially prudent for them to, which would only be when they have to pay for your mistake and it's a high enough amount to make it more beneficial for them to drop you than to collect your yearly fees for however long they think they might retain your business. So while i could be wrong, i'd bet on the notion that they could know your bike is illegal due to pipes and as long as there is no proof they knew it, they'd keep thier mouths shut and continue selling you coverage which when needed they'd reject.

Thanks Dazco.
Dealer says he re-jetted the carbs when he re-fitted the old stock silencers so hopefully it's all ok but I'm reassured by what you say !!

Think I'll stick with the stock pipes for now
