I am interested in installing pod air filters like used in the Freak but would like to leave them exposed. That means leaving off the side covers and the chrome facade thingies.

Q1, anyone done this and can offer any advice?

Q2, any 'photo's?

Q3, does anyone know the appropriate K&N filter code to use?

Q4, do you need any other bits and fasteners?

All assistance greatly appreciated.........Binnsy

The ends of the carbs have to be held up somehow with no airbox there to support them. there is someone who makes a bracket for this purpose but i don't have a URL for ya. Maybe someone else will know who has them.

binnsy,
The K&N part numbers are RC2890 and RC2900. I priced them at my local auto part store and they were $90 each and at least 3 weeks wait (not in stock in Oz). You will also need another small filter to go on the end of the crankcase breather. And you still need something to hold the battery, fuse box, relays, rear brake reservoir etc that hang off the original airbox.
This is why I ordered the NARK even though I have access to sheet metal cutting, bending and welding equipment. Sure it is expensive even with the improved exchange rate, but I reckon the value is there.

Binnsy, the Nark won't fit your speedmaster. You need the Freak air box removal kit which comes with K&N filters, and gives you a little under seat tool box too! See here!

Also on the speedmaster the K&N filters would be partially exposed with out removing side covers.

Bog_rat, do you have the Freak and if yes what does it look like without the cover panels replaced?

I had a look at the Freak and will probably end up going that way. But, I am concerned about all the brackets and stuff thay comes with it to install. I don't like clutter and I am worried that the guts of my bike will end up looking like the Blackpool tower framework.

I suppose I should e-mail Brent at NewBonneville...

Regards............Binnsy

Careful with pods. They do a great job of providing air flow, but you may find yourself rejetting a lot. We used to modify alot of in line fours "back in the day" and had issues with idle constantly! Great for drag racing on a sunny day, don't ride in the rain! Good louck!

DB, thanks for the info, I will probably end up going with the Freak, but first will check out the part numbers locally...
