So I drilled out the first baffles and removed the tubes that you can see from outside the pipes. That was easy. Now I'm drilling through the internal baffle plates. Are you still supposed to remove more tubes? Cause I can't seem to get that second one out. The hard part is that it's off center so i can only drill around 1/2 to 2/3 of it.
Or are you just supposed to drill a bunch of big holes in the internal plates? :???:

Just drill several holes up in to the muffler. No need (and no way I know of) to remove the tubes inside the muffler.

Dennis,

Just drill through the remaining baffles(plates) with a 1/2", 5/8" or 3/4" drill bit welded to a 1/2" or 3/8" steel rod. It's easy to get off center and harder to compensate with a larger drill bit. Going with a 1/2" drill bit is a little easier. I seem to remember about 5 or 6 internal baffles. If you use anything but a welded drill bit on a rod and lose part of it in the muffler it's almost impossible to get out.

As said drill 3 holes thru bafle plates w/ welded extender if you lose the bit in your mufler It has found a permanent home there If it starts to rattle Itll drive ya nuts I believe minus the rear baffle & plate attached there are 3 more to go thru Measure the bit ext to make sure you dont go too far & thru the pipoe itself A litle tape on the bit ext will do the trick Drill till you get the sound where you want it I think 4-3 & 1 did the trick for me Mattewr of choice?

Gosh Guys,
I lost my bit 5 or 6 times in my mufflers and got it back each time--of course I was not drilling them while still on the bike. One time it came loose while stuck in the most forward baffle--I had to use a curved rod from the inlet end .to push it out of that baffle. :-D Guess you guys have never been around the oil patch and heard guys talking about "fishing" out tools lost in the hole. It can be done! Don't scear these guys so much. :-D

Thanks for clearing this up, guys!

So i was drilling away.... and I melted my 1/2" Drill bit! :wow:
I'm not kidding. Its one of those flat bits with the really pointy end. That big point and the chiseled edge of the base of the point is all black and blue and twisted/melted. Dem's some strong baffles!

Dunno... that was my next question. But right now I have to go find a bit that is definitely made specifically for metal. Metal only.

When i had removed the first baffles, I didn't rejet. Just turned the pilot screws out 3 1/4 turns.

So what do you guys thing I should do as far as jetting goes?
