Need help guys,
Bought a "Lucas" style taillight today. Did not purchase any turn signals yet.
Here's my problem ! I'll try to be as specific as possible.

Removed the existing ugly taillight as well as the back turn signals, kept the front ones.
Did unplugged the back turn signals, marked all wires and taped them for future use.
Onto the taillight:
Existing wiring was a follow:
Housing Blue wire attached to black taillight wire, Red housing wire to red taillight wire, black housing wire welded to taillight.
Lucas taillight came only with a black and a red wire.
I wired, after many unsuccessful tries, the housing black and blue wires to the Lucas
black wire and the red housing wire to the Lucas red wire.
Once I turn the bike on, here's what happen:
Taillight works, front turn signals don't, horn doesn't as well as the stop backlight.
I'm sure I've messed up somewhere but need help.
By the way, the Lucas taillight looks awesome.
Any help will be gladly appreciated.
Tbear.

tbear,
It would seem that you need an earth wire and you have probably blown some fuses as well.
You need to leave the tail light alone, run a wire from the frame of the lamp assembly to the wire that was welded to the original frame run the stoplight to the other one. That should do the trick.

Did you hook all the turnsignals up, if one set are off that might be it. As far as which colors, just try a couple of different combinations. Another thing, is your bulb blown or are both filiments intact?

with out looking at my bike - will in a bit, the three wires from the old tail light are thus

one is running light
one is brake light
one is ground

the ground i attached to one of the mounting bolts of the tail light

i will post its color in a moment, after the ground is secure, it is a matter of hooking the other two up to find which goes where.

As far as your signals go if the back aren't hooked up the front aint going to work

Cheers

Thanks to all of you. It now works and looks great.
Soon, hooking up the new turn signals, you'll hear about me for sure...
I have plenty of fuses.

ah thats easy just two wires & i think lockhart & phillips makes an adapter so you don't have to solder.
