Simply unplug it? Got a pic of the plug I should look for? Seems pretty reversible and worth a try...

I've been told it's the plug just behind the carbs. I haven't DXed mine yet.

Ok I think I know the one, it's the only electrical thing on the carbs I think.

I think the wires that plug into the bottom of the carbs are the carb heaters so don't pull those! Maybe someone could describe the location of the plug better than I can, because I am just going by what I was told, and haven't looked too closely yet. + I seem to keep getting my facts wrong on these forums so don't trust me!!! :-D

Pardon my ignorance, what is a TBS ? and what is its function? I don't feel too comfortable just unplugging things. Jack

This is so tempting to try. But is it wise to remove something that advances the timing, or does it indeed do that? (from what i've read here it does) I would think timing should be advanced only by something that senses RPM's, not throttle position. Because you could be at very low RPM's and twist the throttle all the way and advance the timing when it shouldn't be advanced. can someone explain how this works in detail and where my logic is flawed because i gotta be missing something here. guess i'll get out the manual and see if it describes it...

Daz do you remember on old cars there were weights in the distributor, and a vacuum thing on the side of it. The weights were centrifugal and flung out at higher RPM. The vacuum device was powered by the induction through the carbs. Both of these would advance the spark as the engine speed increased. The TPI does the same thing (so I am told) but does it electronically as the ignition is now electronic. The amount of advance would be very, very slight as we have better fuels now, and better ignition systems and everything else.
