Need a better head light not bulb but the light lens. As most have noticed with low beam adjusted high beam is in the trees and with high beam adjusted low beam is to close to the front to be of any use. Who makes a lens that will fit into the light shell? Want to install an additional light but need to fix the stock light first.

Thank you for any assistance.

Check out message # 12788.1 on the Delphi New Triumph Bonneville Forum. This was a very good in depth discussion of T100 headlights. There is a recommendation for a new headlight lense/reflector from Daniel Stern Lighting.

Ordered the head light from Stern. Hope it corrects the light problem.

jt,
Please keep us posted on your results. A bunch of us could use a better head-light.

jttrout-

Did you order the 7" Convex/Dome-face H4 high/low beam ($59/ea) model from Daniel Stern, a photo of which is shown below?

Thanks.

Jttrout, I'm afraid you may be barking up the wrong tree.
The difference between high and low beam is defined by the position of the filaments in the bulb, and the reflector (if fitted) in the bulb.
A new reflector will have the same effect on both high and low beams. That is not to say a new reflector will be of no benefit, but it won't give the effect you describe.

Incidentally, I ride my Thruxton on both dual carriageway and the back lanes of Norfolk at night, and I'm perfectly happy with the headlight as it is. Are the US models fitted with different bulbs to the UK models?

Pete.

I've been meaning to go down to a local Harley dealership and look at those fancy headlamps they're selling in the glamor-parts section. I thought they were pretty cool, Halogen with some kind of triple reflector set-up or something. Or wouldn't it be cool if we could stick something like that massive bulb from the Suzuki 2000cc cruiser. I think it's a 'zuki, you know.....w/three projectors at the bottom inside the bulb; I could only hope that it works as good as it looks.

I thought the bulb on my BMW Roadster worked GREAT, especially after replacing the element with a 100/55. But there were STILL people complaining that it didn't work well..... go figure.

My question would be,
can our charging system on these Bonnie's handle the added load of a pair of small PIAA's? When I added a pair to the Beemer, they LIT UP those country roads!

It seems that most of the people that have the problem drive on the right side which would mean the problem is with the lens supplied by Triumph for these countries. I have put in a 7" car light which did not have the focus problem but was not bright enough.

The headlight recommended by Dan Stern is the 7" Convex/Dome-faced high/low with city light, for $61. I emailed them a couple of weeks ago (reference the Delphi thread) and they indicated this was the correct headlight for the 2005 T100. I described the existing headlight, and they indicated that "Yes, the stock Jute-made optic is of very poor quality." They described the DS headlight above as a "drop-in replacement", but would require re-aiming (instructions are on their website). They said that "a good quality Plus-50 bulb is the natural choice: your Hella bulb should work until it burns out." I had replaced the stock bulb with a Hella H4+50%.
Regarding running lights, I have the Moto-lights mounted on the forks, 23" from ground. They are two 35-watt halogen lights that are very effective. My concern about electrical capacity is whether I can use my Gerbring jacket at the same time--I haven't calculated available wattage, but it would seem that 70-watt Moto-lights plus a 77-watt electric jacket might be pushing it; although, one fellow posted that he had run his Bonnie with the whole Gerbring kit, which should pull over 150 watts. In cold weather I may alternate running lights and electric jacket use, or switch to a less demanding electric vest.

Team, I don't know much about bulbs and reflectors but just for your consideration my Speedy has an awesome headlight as standard.

I swapped the bulb to one of those 10% blue superbrite ones that are so popular now when mine lost low beam. Surprisingly the superbrite bulb was no where near as good as the original and cost almost double.

Does the Speedy have the same bulb as the other models??

I will be sticking to genuine in future........Binnsy
