Has anyone tried the K&N drop in replacement filter on a Bonneville yet? If so, let me know how you like it, did you have to mod jetting and do you see any performance enhancement. I have the Triumph replacement "off road" pipes now. Thanks crew!

I did the drop in Uni filter, but not the K&N. The Uni provided no real improvement in performance. It was not until I installed D&D pipes and did away with the airbox and installed the K&N pod filters that my bike really came to life.

Christov-how do you like the air box replacement? Do you have to adjust carbs alot when the weather changes? Thanks!

I installed the K&N on my T100 after replacing the stock silencers with Norman Hyde Classics (similar to the Togas), on the theory that the more open exhaust required a more open intake. I did not want to tear apart the airbox, and was not sufficiently interested in performance enhancement to spend the money for the NARK. I rejetted to 120 mains (up from 110), put in one shim each on the Thruxton jets that come as stock on the '05 models, and turned the idle mixture screw out from 2.5 to 3.0 turns. The bike ran extremely well from new, all through the rev range, with no flat spots, nor hesitation. My goal in installing the K&N was simply to add the NH silencers without the performance suffering, and in that respect the bike runs quite well, still with strong, consistent power through the rev range and up to redline, no hesitation when given throttle. And now it sounds really nice.

Barrufus-thanks for the feedback and specs! I'll give it a try. I think I am pretty close with the jetting already with the Triumph mufflers.

Hi Brooksie,

I have a K&N airfilter and TOR's, I'm still in the process of experimenting, BUT, I can give you some definitive results from having my bike dyno tested at a specific point in the process. I gained about 10% HP at the wheel or about 5HP as measured by an eddy current low-intertia dynamometer. Here is the setup:

TORs
K&N airfilter
Snorkel removed from airbox
Restrictor plate removed from airbox
Carbs rebalanced! - Make sure to do this!!
42 pilot jets
120 main jets
2-1/2 turns out on the pilot screws

I'm still tweaking this and have modded the intake by cutting out the center so the port is the same size as the air filter, I haven't measured the actual increase in area gained, but I had to increase the sizes of all of my jets again when I made this change. I plan to cut out the other end of the airbox and filter as well, which will double the intake size. I know there is a point of diminishing returns. I think opening the other end of the airbox will probably approach that point. I'll post my dyno results after the last round of mods are completed.

Brooksie, Just a reminder about the 04 and 05 T100--the 05 has Thruxton needles, and therefore folks have been going with smaller main jets than with the standard needles on the 04s. I've read about people putting in jets in the 130-145 range on the pre 05 Bonnies. If you already have the Thrux needles, this caution probably isn't applicable.

BadRufus is right, larger jets are in order. Remember the configuration I posted is a known checkpoint that works well. With the changes I've made I've already increased jet sizes. I just didn't want to lead you astray with 'feel of the pants' configuration. Once I have it dyno tested with the new configuration, I'll post that also.
