What is the best color shield to use for night riding? I have heard clear or yellow, I have a clear now but was wondering if the yellow is better or some other color. thanks

I think clear would be good, that is what I use. The darker ones will block some of the light you don't have enough of to start with. I do, however have yellow auxiliary (fog) lights, and have always liked the yellow ones. Yellow does work better in fog/blowing snow, etc. I also know a black Bonny, leather jacket, and dark helmet is not real smart, that is what I wear and ride every day in the dark on the freeway. Am looking into sonething like an ugly construction vest.

You could purchase a simple black illuminite wind breaker jacket for night riding, fit it over your regular riding jacket and it would be more visible and conspicuous than a white jacket or any other color at night. Bicycle clothing suppliers have them available, e.g. Performance.com, Coloradocyclist.com, or Nashbar.com. to name a few.

I have yellow goggles that I just bought a few weeks ago. I absolutely love them. I can where them both in the day and night. They actually appear to make the night more sharp.

Hey Kdrake,
don't bother with the special glow in the daylight construction vest. Triumph covered that angle with the headlight that we can't turn off.

How much do you want to rely on myopic drivers being able to see you?
In my experience, the one you need to worry about either hasn't bothered to look at all, or is too blind to see if they did look.
I ride on the basis that they're all out to get me! I've stuck to this philosophy for 25 years riding and I'm still alive!

I'm not one into the whole safety-look scene. But sometimes I have to wear a vest to ride on military reservations.

IF ANYONE IS INTERESTED IN GETTING A STATE OF THE ART TRAFFIC SAFETY VEST CHECK OUT THE FOLLOWING WEBSITE:

insighttech.us

I've directed traffic for many years and let me tell ya, the chinsey vests that they had us wear that said "SHERIFF" didn't nearly have the visability as the vest that I personally bought for riding from INSIGHTTECH.US

If your in the market to get a vest, I seriously recomend checking them out.
