So i took the air screws out and slotted them so i can use a regular screwdriver. Then i turned them out to 3 turns. I don't know what they were set to originally because the D tool i made was just good enough to remove them but not enough to accuratly tell how many turns in i had to go to see where it was set. Anyway, everyone keeps saying they should come out more than stock which according to the manual is 2 turns. Does 3 turns seem about right? I've seen different recommendations so i'm not sure where to set them. Doesn't seem to have made any difference. Bike is stock other than AI removed. I may be adding Tbike pipes tho.

Is there a way to tell when it is at optimum aside from measuring exaust gasses or whatever it is they do in the shop? open to all suggestions. (well, to those jokers among you, not ALL :-D )

Probably around 3 turns out seems to be the average. I have mine out 3.25 turns out with the Uni-filter and Specialty Spares long cannons. Still have just a little popping on decel, but at 3.5 turns out, the plugs looked a little rich. I really should get the gas analyzer done.

Daz, you are spending too much time thinking and not enough time riding.

Daz,

Roadglide is correct get out there and ride the thing... But 3 turns sounds about right if it is idling Okay and the plugs look good...

You kidding !?! I've put way more miles on it that i wanted to ! I expected to keep it under 3-4k per year as a toy to use on occasion for reasons i don't need to go into. But suffice it to say i expected to put on much less milage than i have. So you can tell me to get out there and ride all you want. but most of the time i won't hear you due to the ear plugs ! :-D :-D :-D

So back to the subject at hand, 3 turns didn't make a bit of difference and it's still taking literally 5 times as long to warm up to where it can idle than before AI removal. I may have to still consider removing the Ca. gear. But i'll wait till i get the pipes because who knows how it's strat and run after that.

daz,
If you still have some of the Ca emissions ***** on, you have not removed all of the AI system yet. Once you take this stuff off, you can get rid of the popping and get it to idle better. If you go more than 4 turns out, put in the next size pilot jets and start again at 1/2 turn out.

Thanks Dinqua ! So you're saying that if the AI is removed you MUST remove the EVLS? Thats what the Jenks instructions seemed to suggest, tho it didn't say it outright for obvious resons i suppose I held off on it because i wasn't quite sure of a few details and figured if it's running fine i'd just leave it. I can deal with the long warmup, tho if you think thats the problem i'll probably remove it. I will probably leave the gear (cannisters and whatever else) on tho because of the trouble involed in removing it and moreso because when i sell it (hopefully not for a very long time) i'd just have to re-install it. So i'd just cap where the hoses go and have the breather simply go to the bottom of the bike with a filter on the end. As for popping, it doesn't do that and never has, but the starting issue remains. Thanks.
