Just attended the Allegheny RAT Raid, riding out of St. Mary's PA. Good size group. I think I heard 130 people.
Good cross section of Triumphs. Even a turbo charged Rocket (206 HP at the rear wheel!!??)
The one notable exception was no Thruxtons!! :???:
They gave away a ton of stuff, (not to me but thats OK).
They had a wide variety of ride routes mapped out. Every road I was on was a ton of fun, and great scenery.
It was a weekend of many 1st time experiences for me.
1st time in PA on my bike.
1st time on any of the roads. All great.
To/From Grand Canyon of PA.
Rt. 120, 144, 872
Allegheny National Forest
Rt.948, 666, 62, Scenic Byway at Kinzua Point.
1st time putting my rain suit on, (and 2nd, 3rd).
1st time in large group ride.
Decided not my cup of tea. I was "last" of about 20. Cool to see all the bikes ahead of me, but found it a distraction, as I kept looking at them instead of "ride". Know I would have been very uncomfortable in the middle of the pack. But it was OK as me another guy just went on our own way after group stopped for a break!
1st time riding into big weather change.
Hot sunny mid 90's to rainy, foggy, and 60 in about 30 minutes. Glad I packed my jacket liner! Rain OK, but the fog kinda spooked me. Rode out of fog after about 30 minutes.
1st FLAT Tire
Got that on way down on Friday. Not too much drama. Lucky it went down slow, so I felt it. Had been riding through a lot of "nowhere" but able to stop at a little ice cream stand and call tow, and had an ice cream cone! As timing would have it, got to bike shop and unloaded and then a hellasous thunderstorm came through. I was actually glad to be in the shop!!!
I think it might be wise to carry spare tubes. Luckily shop had one to fit.
1st 800 mile weekend.
Could have been closer to a 1000 except for the flat.
Pulled into my garage Sunday evening, pulled off my helmet and shouted "Yeah baby Yeah!!!" :tasty:
Loving this bike more and more.
