Bandana's tied over the head, granny-style. You see a lot of them instead of helmets in states w/o helmet laws (PA).

It's that "pirat looking" bandana thing some people like to wear on their heads. It appears to be a big thing in the Harley community when associated with bikes. The origins I believe (and I'm not sure on this) are gang related as like "showing your colors" or membership to fellow gang members and other gangs.

Actually, It's more properly called a "do-wrap" as the "do-rag" term stems from Afro-American culture. Let's all be politically correct now! LOL!! "Do-wrap" has also been taken as a brand name by the largest manufacturer of these head coverings.

Unless you wear a helmet, are bald or have a fairly tight or short haircut, the do-wrap is a necessity on a bike. It can be a real pain cleaning the bugs out of your hair. LOL! They are also very handy when riding in a convertible, especially the classic cars where wind currents in the cockpit were NOT computer-simulated and designed out! You can lose a lot of hats at 100+ but never the do-wrap!

They are not a Harley poser thing at all, anymore than any other oiece of riding gear has become a HD poser thing. Which is everything! Sigh! Tying a bandana on your head goes back to the very earliest riders, long before helmets ever existed. And, of course, before HD existed too!! Ahahahaha!

Thus ends the "do-wrap" history lesson. I hope you were all taking notes as there will be a quiz next period.

Cogito ergo equito

We have a helmet law in Washington instead of an insurance requirement. So,the doo-rags you see here are mostly on HD/DDSs to keep their toupee`s on when one of their compadre`s fire up the3"id shorty straight pipes and blast across the parking lot to assume their badass [and rightful] position in the daily gridlock. :-D I do have a dew-rag to wipe my bike down with after an early morning ride though.

Invariably I find that when the doo rag comes off there's a bald head underneath. And I have to admit that its a great head cover to keep a bald head from sunburning because its light, can be tied tighly and one size fits all. I'd rather see these guying wearing a good half helmet though

HD posers who do not wear doo rags invariably have hair on top of their heads and its usually in the mullet style (this is the classic red neck hair style of short on the top and front and long on the sides and back).

As far as sports car drivers wearing doo rags, I am a sports car nut and have been so for a couple of decades and go to several national sports car events annually. I have never seen a sports car driver wearing a doo rag at any time.
