This weekend I'm putting in new front springs(Hagon from BC), Gaiters, and chrome headlight brackets. Anyone have advice on the order in which to do this and any tips to make the job go as smooth as possible. Also, I've had the bike since last October should I change the fork oil? If so what brand and weight should I use? Any help would be great. Thanks in advance.

Do one side at a time - raise bike on lift, remove front wheel fender and brake caliper, then remove one side of fork, replace spring, reassemble shock, remove stoneguard, slip on gaitor, change headlight bracket, reinstall shock, then do the other side, don't tighen up anything until everying is assembled and proper hight and alignment are corrrect. Don't forget to replace and retorque the front axle cinch bolt.

About the only trick is to use some windex or soapy water on the rubber spacers on the triple tree to allow the shock to be slipped back into place without pinching one of the spacers.

When I replaced the stock fork springs on my T100 with Hagons, BC recommended changing to 20 weight oil. I was sceptical (original oil is 10), but did it, and it seems to work fine. Call them and ask their advice and instruction on how much to put in and how to measure the oil.

Muss you don't really need to change the oil at all nor will you need a different rate. Removal is as per Gary has stated.

If you want to know how much oil to put in go back a few posts. I gave all the details there.

Note:

Make sure you don't start pumping the stanchions when they are removed or you'll have oil everywhere.

Safety: Be careful when removing the top nuts of the stanchion. They are under spring load and the top will shoot off. It's easier to loosen them while they are fitted to the bike thus enabling you to keep them gripped. When you remove the nuts when the leg is removed use a piece of cloth on the top to stop them springing off.

on eother tip - when reinserting the shock tube through the rubber spacer, it helps to rotate the tube as you push it through.

Can someone tell me the socket size for the top nuts of the stanchions? The adjustable wrench was knicking them up.

Got the gaiters and the headlight brackets installed last weekend, along with new rear shocks. Thanks for tips. All that is left are the front springs, doing that wednesday night.
