I now have the perfect motorcycle. I monitored this forum after purchasing my Speedmaster, for solutions to what I perceived as fixable shortcomings. South Bay did my warranty maintenance (cylinder base gasket leak), and installed the factory (via "contractor") "off road" long silencers, rejetted the carbs, and installed the 18 tooth front sprocket (for $32 labor included) in one week. On your advice, I had to pull it from L.A. cyclesports, who had not done an effing thing in 3 weeks, in order to make this happen. In my estimation, the factory "off road" pipes have the perfect low throated purr of a satiated big cat, rather than the mechanical flatulence of it's American cousin, which is annoying and obnoxious to so many members of the general public (including me). I find the 18 tooth front sprocket to have the perfect gearing ratio and R.P.M. versus speed expectation. I think that Triumph must put the other sprocket (16 or 17- not clear) on, in order to achieve a torque or horsepower spec that they can publish, which looks competitive. With the pipes and rejetting, I find that whatever you lost, you gained back, however I have not ridden 2 up, but don't plan to anyway. My 2 finest (and I mean FINE and in the Centaur sense) bikes have been a Honda V45 Sabre and the original Kawasaki 900 Z1 (I haven't ridden in 8 years), this Triumph has even better touch (regardless of horsepower) and I am well pleased that a Triumph rides like "an Injun (native American, not the brand) pony". I will continue to monitor and if I can ever give assistance to any of you, I will log in.
