If I look at the back of the bike into the ends of the TOR's I notice that they look different.

On the right port, it looks like the stock exhaust where you could see 2 rings, 1 for the outer chrome housing and then a pipe inside that housing.

On the left port it appears as if there is no pipe inside the chrome outer housing.

I have determined that both sides are indeed TOR's since they are stamped for "off road use only" but I'm confused as to why the two look different.

Is it possible that the left and right are different versions of TOR's? Is this normal?

D.

They could well be different versions. There were some problems with the quality of the chrome in the past. And some people ordered, and rejected, several sets of TORs before they found one they could accept.

With all of those silencers going back and forth, and some of them potentially being sidelined for unacceptable finish issues, it's possible that someone tossed two "good" TORs into a box and put it back on the shelf at the dealership or a warehouse. What they failed to notice was that the two silencers weren't the exact same design.

I think there have been two or three different styles of TOR silencer over the past few years.

That being said - when I call the dealer about this, which version does it make sense to ask for? Are the part numbers different?

Here's an idea-get rid of those TORs and install a set of D&Ds. Sell your TORs on e-Bay or in the member's forum. Joe :-D

You didn't say if you bought them new from the dealer or used from an individual. If they came from a dealer, bring them back and demand a matching set. I believe the original TORS were made in England but the current versions are made in China as are the stock mufflers. I don't think there is anything wrong with the quality of the mufflers but they may flow differently so I would get a matching set if you bought them new.
