If the intake was restricted, wouldn`t it affect all the gears?I held my throttle open long enough in 3rd this weekend to reach the limiter[not an abrupt cut off, just quits pulling]Speedo indicated 87mph,106 in 4th and ran out of road to pin 5th. No tach or pipes, just a 19t and AI removed. :???:

------------------------I'm curious rodburner. How fast did the speedo say you were going in 5th or didn't you ever get it into 5th.

Bryan,I was "only" showing the 106 when I shifted to 5th,then started slowing down. The revs dropped quite a bit after the shift, but would guess 10-15 more mph would be realistic.I don`t have much hair left and the wild ones are few and far between. I`d really like to meet up with Copper while he was on duty and do a controlled blast down a freeway somewhere.I find the 85+ in 3rd much more useful than max in 5th. :-D

85 in 3rd? seems like i hit the limiter 1-3 then 4 & 5 I am cool, either that or I am running rich at the top!?! I don't have a rev counter and just assumed I was hitting the limiter hmm, now i am thinking there may be something different a foot.
I got to get this thing dynoed...

Do you find the 5th useful at all with the 19 teeth sprocket?

I find 5th with the 19T a great combination for highway use. Yes, you will lose a bit of acceleration, but it's no more than a downshift away at the very worst. Highly recommended.

Exactly!! I use 5th from its lower practical limit [40mph] to whatever speed is required to keep the grin on. Am also getting approx.160-175miles to reserve. :-D

CaptD,
I suspect there is an uneven gearing ratio change between 3-4-5 on the bonnie. I put the 18T front sprocket on my stock 03 T100 and found that it was magically transformed from a city and by-ways bike to a highway bike. Before the sprocket I basically had 3 gears: 1-3-5 and 5 came along far to quick for me. Now with the 18T it feels like I have 5 full gears.
The sprocket is so cheap ($20 at NB) that you could buy the 18T and 19T and see which one works best for the riding you do. I typically don't ride the interstates so 18T is perfect for me but I've read a lot of comments from riders in the southwest that the 19T is better for the wide open spaces, long distances they travel. Either way, this may be a solution to your 4th gear woes.
Good luck.
Pete

I ride a 02 bonneville, Specialty spares pipes air injection and air box removed and a 18t. I find the 18t the best for all around use good on interstate and superior on the town.
