I'll throw in a vote for the Sidi On-Roads. They're completely waterproof. ( I read some review where the guy walked around in a bathtub full of water...No leaks) I like them because they're easy on & off with velcro only, no zippers or laces. They're tall with good shin coverage. Also, with some riding pants that tuck inside the boot, they look really cool IMO. More storm-trooperish than Power Rangerish. Basically, they remind me of what a motorcycle boot should look like. Oh, and I can walk around all day in them. Under jeans, they're not very conspicuous.

I have 3 pair of boots for riding. My around town/short trip boots are Vega Nitro Matrix. They are a mid-length lace-up with vents that work well in around town riding. Fairly comfortable (they are a very recent purchase and I am still breaking them in) for walking about in a store and decent protection of the foot and ankle. Very reasonably priced at $59.00!
My primary out of town, warm weather boots are Sidi Evo Air. Very comfortable both on and off the bike and the vents work well in the South Texas Summer. I have worn them in the occasional rain (you sometimes just can't avoid those Texas summer storms) and they do take on water.
My winter/wet riding boot is a pair of Setup Gran Prix Tepor. Very nice boots. I've done the bathtub trick and they absolutely do not leak. Warm in the winter with thicker socks (I bought them a bit large for the purpose of wearing thicker socks) and comfortable off and on the bike.
I bought the Sidi at the Triumph dealer for 200.00. The Setup boots came from newenough.com for a great price (129.00 IIRC) and the Matrix came from a local dealer.
Try on a bunch of boots and make sure you both walk around in them and at least sit on your or a similar bike before taking them home. Nothing worse than a pair of boots that hurt your feet.

Got to admit, I don't use motorcycle-specific boots. I ride in the same boots I wear on an everyday basis whether I'm on the bike or not:
Cove Matterhorns
These boots are superbly comfortable, rugged, waterproof (mostly -- mine did let in a little water when I got caught in a serious, lengthy downpour a few weeks ago), and versatile. I spend a good 15 or 16 hours a day wearing mine, every day. And no, I'm not in the military...

BlitzPig,
The two pairs of Sidis I've had wore the leather (or Lorica in the case of the black rain boot) away on the inner heel real quick and the waterproof membrane gave way on the left boot around the toe area on the top, maybe some friction from changing gear. Sidis are popular I agree but putting in the miles is the best test I know and they didn't live up to my expectations.

I have Cruiserworks boots, but I think they've gone out of business.
For cheap Oxtar prices, try motorcyclecloseouts.com at the link below.
Oxtar boots
I haven't ordered boots from them, but I have ordered a couple of jackets and didn't have any problems with either order.

I have a pair of Alpinestar and two pairs of Cruiserworks.
I haven't worn the Alpinestars since I got the Cruiserworks.
Look good, VERY comfortable, 100% waterproof.
They are on the web at
Cruiserworks
They have a resoling service for $40 once you've worn through the soles. I've done that on one pair and they came back looking like new.

Gotta say one thing here, and that is if you're going to get riding boots make sure they have shin protection. Most boots made for riding will have this, but not all.
A buddy of mine at work started riding last year. This spring he bought a new Harley and got some sort of coupon for Harley accessories. He ended up with a ton of Harley clothing, including a thin jacket and riding boots for himself and his wife. The boots are basically hiking boots that have the Harley logo on the side.
So a few months later his wife takes the MSF beginner course and wipes out at 30mph, her leg was pinned under the bike and her shin was torn open such that several inches of bone were exposed. In my friend's words, "it was pretty gross." Not sure if she's still limping but I'm sure the experience has left a mark.
Prompted me to buy a pair of Sidi City's on closeout (last year's model), haven't ridden in my work boots since.

Personally I think my Cocoran military jump boots are the best. They are indestructable, break in very easy, and the side zipper makes for easy on and off. They also fit perfectly in the shifter.
the XC1585's.
