Anchorbend,
Here's a link to a page I did on my installation of an aftermarket tach.
Jon's tach

"OldSport" has done a similar page. Here's his link Oldsport's tach

Here's a third one from another Bonnie owner, Baldwyn I think.
Baldwyn's tach

Hope that helps.

Twelve posts and only one person answered the question. Good job, JPS.

Actually, he didn't answer the question:
[quote]"I had run across a step by step pictorial that somebody had posted on this site about installing an aftermarket tach on their Bonneville. Can somebody please help me find this posting. Tried using the search engine but without success. Thanks"

Sorry Anchorbend, I was part of that confusion, and I read your other, more recent post about how to use the search engine. Here is the name of the post you're looking for:
"First Ride New Black Bonneville"

DJ,
Yeah, that's a really nice unit and was sort of the look I was hoping for with mine.
Not having any machining capabilities, I can't make that sort of face/mounting plate, but I really like the look.
The chrome speedo cup has been done by Oldsport and really looks nice in the flesh. And it's cheap too.
I figure you could get pretty close to that LSL setup for way less than half the price if you could fab that mounting plate for around $50 and get an aftermarket tach for $50.
You reuse everything else and the rest of the cost would be in personal labor.
Of course, if I was given a choice, I'd love to get a set of clocks from the Mecatwin Racer

Funny, I was just looking at the Drag Specialties tach and wondering how to install it on my Bonneville; a quick search yielded this thread.

JPS66, thanks for the helpful links.

God, I love this site!

So when I buy the Triumph tach for my 05 America, it will come complete with instructions? And the install is very easy?

I'm a new rider; wear a full face helmet. I have a tough time hearing when I've reached a limit and if I just go by feel, I think I might be pushing the bike too hard, especially on a brand new bike.

For a month or so of having the bike I wanted a tach until recently. I guess I am screwed cause' I don't look at my speedo (much less a tach) half the time. I admittedly am not high-revving it due to break in but with the limiter I feel no need for a tack. I can hear it and I can feel it.
I know I am playing with fire as I cannot count how many times in the first month I have looked down to see 55 or 60 in a 35 or 45 zone...
If I am not looking at the speedo, I think a tach is a waste of time to me as well... JMO (all the time I know..)
Thing is, in Atlanta you have to be driving out of your mind mad to get a ticket most of the time. First thing I noticed when moving here was how fast you could go everywhere.....

Every bike I have ever owned came with a tach and speedo.. but after many years of riding, I have long since found that I rarely, if ever, look at either.. well, maybe I'll glance down and check my speed when I see a cop sitting on the side of the road or some other condition that may warrant it

I shift when the bike tells me it needs a new gear, and that action has become quite automatic over the years. If you need a tach to tell when to shift, then you ain't been riding long enough. Same deal in a cage with a manual transmission.. does anyone really look at the tack to figure out when to shift gears?!?

Cheers,
Brad
