Cool Scrambler vs T100

Hello people!

This is my first thread here, and I'm already asking a silly question. Or maybe not.

I'm a 26 year-old guy that is currently finishing taking the drivers license (for bikes). I've never been too much of a motorcycle guy, and quite frankly I just like five or six motorcycle models, and yeah..... Triumph take 50% of my choices (Scrambler, Bonneville and Thruxton).

After longs months searching for the right bike, I've finally made up my mind: Bonneville T100 or Scrambler. These are my absolute favorite bikes ever! And here is my problem, I simply can't decide which one to choose.

Yeah, I know both are great bikes. I also know I should buy both, but unfortunately that wont be possible So I really need to choose one. Just one. Period.

Now let me tell you the purposes of this bike and all in between.

I'm a big guy (1.91 meters) with about 90 Kg. I will use the bike daily, and mostly (95% of the time) on the city. Plus, this city is chaotic. Lots of traffic. Yet, I may also use the bike for longer rides on the weekend. I will need to carry a passenger every now and then (girl), so a good and comfortable seat is a plus.

This is going to be my first motorcycle, and one thing is certain: I want to keep the bike for a long time, if not, forever. I'm not that kind of people that are always buying new bikes. I want to buy one - maybe a second after some years - but never swap for another one. So yeah, the vintage look is a huge factor, since it helps the motorcycle not to "look outdated".

There are a few things I like a lot on the T100, and others more on the Scrambler. I can say that right now I'm 50-50 for each bike, and I really can't decide which one to choose.

My girl likes the T100 more. Probably all girls think this way!? Yet, this is my decision.

There is a major letdown on the Scrambler: the colors. I mean, I just have two color options, black or khaki green. Personally, I don't really fancy any of the choices. I wish the dual-colored paint schemes of older models was still there.

Anyway.... what do you advise me to do?

And now making everything simple:

- I'm 1.91 m with 90 Kg
- mainly city use
- it will have to last years and years (forever!)
- the bike price here is the same

Comparing the T100 to the Scrambler, how would you describe them on:

- reliability
- engine / performance
- coolness factor / chicks, haha!
- bang for the buck

Thank you for your help!

Cheers!

I have the T100. It great, but the suspension isn't. Bumps will rock your world. From what I have read, the Srambler suspension will soak up the bumps better. Plus, the Scram is a bit taller. I am about your height and sitting on the Scrambler it really felt comfy. The extra height will make you more visible to traffic and give you better visibility. The Scramber has more low end torque so may be better in the city where it mostly low speed. For top end speed the Bonneville is better But the big thing - the added suspension travel might make the Scram a better choice.

I'm partial to T-100's....

But...the Scram is a lot taller....and that is the one thing that bugs be about the Bonnies.... You can't go wrong with either choice....

test ride, test ride test ride....

And don't count out the Thruxton....especially that new model with the red frame....it looks awesome...

Look below, there is a thread like this with 20+ opinions that could help with your decision. Both are very nice bikes and you cant go wrong with either one.

Ive got the greentea. most of my riding is around town. everyone changes the shocks and springs on these bike no matter which one they buy.I put that big comfy scrambler gel seat on it. this bike is a real crowd pleaser. I definately the coolness factor goes to the t100. the decelleration on my bike makes for easy riding in traffic.

Hello miles,

when you are 1,91 I only can approve the Scrambler. You have more seat height and the footpegs are more down and in front; think it's better comfortable riding for you. Before I bought my Scrambler, I had the same problem as you ... I don't like the highup exhaust and the Trialwing tires too .... but I wan't the 270° engine, because of better performance in the middle range of enginespeed. So I bought a Scrambler .... and now one year later I have MY bike:

I'm 1,92 and 96kg and having test rode both back to back found the Scrambler to be the one for me. It's seriously comfy, you'll sit higher so you'll get a better view in the traffic, you've slightly more low end grunt for city work and if you're really after the 2-tone paint job, you can get a second hand carbed one and spend the difference on some new shocks, although a second hand one will probably already have them.

Both bikes are bullet-proof mechanically and you can't really go wrong with either. Get yourself down to your local dealer, test ride them both and then search the classifieds for the Scrambler you know you want ;-)

The Deathwing tyres are easily fixed, & even the high exhaust doesn't have to be forever.

The Scrambler's better at the urban assault. It's not called the Street Scrambler for nothing, & it's one of the best bikes for carving up the traffic that I've ever ridden.
