So what do people take with them?
This stemmed from my original thought, which was: "What lock(s) or other portable security devices do people carry with them?"
Then I thought it might be a bit more interesting generally if I asked the question: "What things do people carry with them when out on their bikes?"
I'll give a few examples:
- Knives
- Tools
- Torch
- Spare Gloves
- Mobile Phone
etc etc
So, what do you carry with you?
Andy

Cell phone and common sense, the weapons say at home when I travel.

I usually take my cell phone and GPS unit and I usually leave my sense of direction at home.

I take with me my phone, my camera and my wallet.
And I leave behind every year that I've aged since 1974!!

Atgatt
Condoms. I've never needed them, but I'm an optimist. A pathetic, delusional optimist.

Depends how far I'm going and where I'm going... Random ride around to pick up things around down? Just my gear, phone, wallet.
Day ride out in the country? GPS, iPod, Powerlet charger, penlight, tire pressure gauge, EZ toll pass, cell phone, plus regular gear, wallet, and spare gloves.
Long range trip? All of the above plus the three most used wrenches, most used allen keys, waterproof flashlight, terry cloths, small thing of chain lube, clothes and my AMA card.

Drivers license, credit card, cell phone, and appropriate
amount of cash. My experience has been that no matter
how many tools or spare parts I carry, they will not be
useful, because whatever fails will be something for
which I am unprepared. I think there is a part of Murphys
law which states that events prepared for will never
occur, while those not prepared for will inevitably occur.
Anyone else experience this, or is it just me?

Oh I like that! Nice answer!
I do have a toolkit I have stashed where the airbox was, it has rather an excessive amount of stuff.
I also carry waterproofs, tube of slime, emergency air compressor, cell phone and roadside assistance. On long tours I take more stuff - spare cables and inner tubes, tyre irons, big padlock and chain. It sounds like a lot but finding space for it all hasn't been difficult.
Also, always carry water and a first aid kit, and a little bit of food.
cgrossarth - yes that seems to work that way for me too. I generally overthink my trips - but I can't help it. Risk management is part of my job, it just comes to me. No matter, I have great fun on my trips.
