I just installed the Solo Seat w/Rack on my 2009 Bonneville Standard. The part number is A9708097. Has anyone else that has fitted this seat on a 2009 and noticed a 3/4 inch gap between the front of the seat and tank? Everything lines up OK but is like the seat is either too short or the rear mounting tabs are a little too far inboard.
All seats are supposed to wrrk on all models, regardless of year.
I have the same seat and remember noticing the same you do on first install.
But I would have to check if it still is that way. But it's 3 am here, so it'll be tomorrow.
It makes you sit a bit higher which can add to comfort when you have long legs and bad knees.
And it doesn't feel like sitting on wood.
But there's only space for one.
The seat does not look like it is fully forward. Is the plastic flange with the two mounting holes in the bottom back of the seat up against the frame mounting holes? Also the front of the seat looks high, perhaps the plastic "tongue" under the seat front is not in the reciever correctly.
I think it's just the way seats that were originally designed for pre-EFI Bonnies fit on the newer EFI bikes. If you look at the pic Rose just posted in the Bonneville picture thread, she seems to have the same gap. Although most say the seats are interchangeable, I guess that doesn't necessarily mean they're a perfect match.
I hadn't fitted the seat at that point, it was just resting on the bike. I haven't got a gap, I'll post another picture when its warmer. I didn't fix it as I was putting the renntec rack on.
The seats for EFi and carbed bikes have different numbers, but your part number matches the EFi part number so no reason why it shouldn't fit properly.
I just looked it up on Ling's website and the description was 'Single Seat and Rack Kit, EFI', whereas all the seat part numbers don't say EFi, that's why I assumed there could be a difference.
I have the same seat on my '07 Carby T100, and have the same issue. I was concerned at first and took the seat on and off several times to verify everything is as it should be. It seems to me as if the seat pan maybe has a bit more curve than it should. I can push the front down and it looks fine, but as soon as I let go it comes back up. The other option is that the plastic tab that slips underneath the metal is not in the correct position. Either way, there doesn't appear anything can be done about it. I don't really notice it so much anymore.
BTW, it did seem to be a noticeable comfort improvement for me. Sits a bit higher, but more comfy and still enough room to move back and forth to change position.
The dealer sent me a new seat - part number A9708075 and it fits the same way as the A9708097. So, I'm sending back the new seat and may mod the old seat so it fits better. I may just cut off the rear mounting tabs so it can slide in more and use some industrial strength velcro to hold it in place.
Anyway, just thought I would post an update for anyone else looking to add the Solo Seat w/Rack on their EFI bike.
New member here. I also would like to order this seat for my 2009 Bonneville SE. After reading the thread, I still am looking for clarity as I have now seen/read of three different item stock numbers A9708075, A9708097 and A9708096 for the solo seat and rack. Thanks in advance and sorry if I am rehashing old information. This item appears to be on backorder from Triumph at least in Ohio.
... unfortunately no part number on the Triumph invoice!?!
However, looking at the new Triumph Parts Instructions triumphinstructions (very useful), I think the following is true:
Scrambler - A9708024
Bonneville - A9708075 Carb'd
Bonneville - A9708096 EFI All Black
Bonneville - A9708097 EFI Black w/White Piping (this part no. is consistently shown on dealer sites with White Piping)
According to Ling's, xx024 was superseded by x096, but there's no pic for 096, whereas 097 looks to have white piping. 075 is definitely all black.
This is an older thread, you may not receive a response, and could be reviving an old thread. Please consider creating a new thread.
