Rev Limiter - If you have to ask...
Is it safe to assume that I'd know if I'd ever bounced off the rev limiter? I don't have a tach, obviously.
I haven't had a chance to do many highway miles over the ~4,100 I've put on the bike, so not much opportunity to really wring the bike out and see what it can do.
Yesterday it was above 50F and dry, so I took a detour on the way home... found myself at the front of the line at a stoplight in a 55mph zone, so I decided to open the throttle a bit. Felt like I came the closest to max revs in 2nd or 3rd... but I'm guessing I still wasn't that close. I maxed out at about 75 (didn't want to attract too much attention), and was probably going ~50-60 in third. How far off was I?
Also, what gear do you find to be the best/most fun to run WOT up to the limiter? And finally, reassure me that there's no way I will hurt the engine by doing this every now and again.

You'll know when you hit the rev limiter, your bike sort of stumbles and cuts in and out. Hard to describe, but you get the idea.
These motors are very tough, and capable of going past the rev limit, so you're alltight. It's not like you're doing it every couple of minutes, but plenty of people do it every time they ride. It's really easy to hit the limit in first and second. Getting up their in 4th and 5th is a high speed and eye opening experience, and more easily achieved if the Engine is breathing easily - ie no airbox.

50 mph in third, not even close to rev limit. my T100 is stock except the Tors, it flattens out a little at about 6000.

I thought the Rev limiter was there to remind us old uns to shift that little lever up one more time--sure glad it don't have a six speed...I get tired by the time I get to fifth.
A friend put an "electronic shifter" on his 675 Daytona...he likes the track days. It is pure music to hear him upshift on the straight-a-way. With the "electronic shifter", he merely starts a shift without the clutch and the "electronic shifter thingie" (I don't know what it is actually called) momentarily cuts the ignition like the rev limiter and the shift is smooooth and faast with no clutch or throttle change!

conservative
With my stock set up, on a 04 with a rev limit of a conservative 7200, the limiter kicks in above 80mph in 3rd gear. My current set up - a 8500 rpm limit - it should kick in about 92mph. The pull and feel from 65 - 85 is far better than the pull from 40 to 60. With the limit on your machine, not sure of the specifics, but sounds like you're being really conservative. I put a tac on my bike this summer, interesting to see how well I was guessing revs. Under WOT as it hits 7000 rpm definitely brings about a different character in the bike. Shocking for a normally docile girl. I'm not sure I'll ever bring it above 8000, but I imagine she would get very naughty. I'm going to get a ticket for sure.
