What kind of dealer fees on a used Bonnie?

Would anyone know fairly accurately what kind of fees I should expect to see at a dealer on, say, a 2007 Bonneville or a T 100 that is advertised around 6K USD? If they advertise the price of the used bike at $ 6,000 with the little asterisk* stating that the final price doesn't include title fee, document fees, taxes, etc... Should freight be included in the final price for instance? (my guess the bike is local obviously so it got rolled right in the store). I realize dealers need to make money, I just want to know where it's coming from (either the price of the bike is set artificially or they try to hammer the customer with "fees").. Hope this makes sense.
Would good credit help in negociating better financing or is the best deal set at around 8%?
Also, what exactly is involved in a "dealer prep"? Does it apply to used bikes?

Thanks!

Now I know sod all about how things work in the States, but surely they can only charge you fees for a new bike? A second hand one will already have been registered and had all it's stuff done to it - all they need to do is service it and give you the keys, which I would have thought they'd do as a matter of sheer courtesy (I know both my Triumph dealers serviced for free before I got my grubby mitts on the bikes). Tell em to bugger off and shop elsewhere!

Cheers
bob

edit - surely all the taxes were paid when the bike was first purchased and the docs should already be in a little envelope in the dealer's filing cabinet. Sounds like a rip off to me

Buying a bike from a dealer new or used you should expect to pay tax on it. Don't blame the dealership, blame the government. They may also charge a service fee to transfer the ownership, get you plates and such. Other than that there shouldn't be any other fees. Freight is paid on new bikes only as well as PDI. Try and get financing through a bank if you can, then you can walk into the dealership and negotiate a "cash" price. Also a neat trick is to only shop at the end of the month or end of the quarter. Most sales people will be eager to get an extra sale in for that month and it can net you a better deal. Don't forget to try and negotiate for some little perks to sweeten the deal.

The price is what you're willing to pay. I tell them to give me a total price and spare me the details, then I decide if that's reasonable or make a counteroffer, or simply ask the salesman if he can do better than that.

Ask them for a written quote. One that breaks down everything they are asking for. Then you can negotiate from there. Remember, the initial asking price may be completely out there, So go in knowing what it's worth. 6K on an 07 doesn't sound too horrible, but I would guess that it's on the high end of things. Check the various blue books to get an idea. Which book does your local bank use?
