'07 Bonnie losing power.....

Hello All,

I've been having a small problem with my bike the last 2 or 3 rides. I'll be cruising along and all of a sudden it skips like it would if it were running out of fuel; it loses power for a second, and then magically regains it. The last incident was on the freeway going about 70 so I'm pretty concerned. I've check and I have plenty of fuel and my hand hasn't bumped the kill switch. I also cleaned the air filter thinking that may have something to do with it. Has anyone else run into a similar problem? I am pretty green in the wrenching department so any advice will be appreciated.

Ignition pick up coil. Its probably failing. Mine went and my ignition coil failed too. Not sure if one caused the other or if it was just coincidence. Either way check them. Most likely to be that.

Could be debris in your fuel tank. Take off the tank, drain it, pull out the petcock (take notes/draw pictures on how it comes apart for reasembly) and clean the filters (two of them, one is the main and the other is the reserve), rinse the tank out a couple of times with a bit of clean fuel. Reassemble. I've done both of my bikes and had a fair bit of rust and peeled paint in them. I didn't experience the symptoms you have had but I can see how the debris left in there and build up over time could cause fuel starvation/blockage.
Good luck!

thanks cdubya. took your advice and removed the gas tank and ran some clean gas through it last night. i filled it up with a fresh tank and added some fuel system cleaner. it ran without a problem and even seemed to have a little more pep than before. thanks for your post as well nickwiz.

If your problem persists, also check the fuel tank
vent for blockage. Unvented tank will not flow
fuel properly.
