Question Slip On/Off Tail and Saddle Bags

I have the occasional need for luggage when running errands or the infrequent overnight ride but do not want have the usual saddle bags and accompanying support frames on my bike all the time. So...

Has anyone used the easily removed cloth tail bag and/or saddle bags such as those made by Motogear (P/N 73727 at http://www.costco.com/Browse/Product...rodid=11297597) or Tour Master (P/N 58-TM-4 at http://www.kneedraggers.com/details/...--58-TM-4.html)? If so, did you have difficulties keeping the saddlebags out of the wheels?

I really like the clean look of my Bonneville but do need the occasional luggage.

I have the Tourmaster/Cortech bags. I couldn't see anyway to use the saddlebags without supports. I used them previously on my old Nighthawk and they got some damage rubbing on the springs, but didn't have a problem with wheel clearance. On the Bonnie they would rub on the springs and weighted in a turn I couldn't see anyway they weren't going to hit the wheel.
I do not have the larger top bag pictured but the smaller sport tail bag. That can be used on the bike but I think changing out the plastic hooks that secure it would make it work better.

I was in the same position as you a few months back; I wanted/needed to have some bags but the last thing I wanted was something permanetely mounted on my Bonnie. Just my opinion but I do not like the look of bags that are mounted on them and I wanted something temporary that could be easily taken off. I ordered the saddlebags and a seat bag from Kurakyn and I have been happy with them. They have a very clever system to mounting them, using nothing more than velcro but they stay in place fantastically and they are easier to take off than to put on. They have an enormous amount of room; I would compare compartment space with my saddlebags and seat bag to a standard touring bike. Really good product; the only gripe I have is that you are essentially hooking up sails to your bike for the wind to have fun with you but that is nothing on the company...nature of the beast. Here are pictures of my Bonnie with the bags attached...hope it helps.

Mind you they are probably not the best looking bags in the world but I didn't care about that. If I am not using them then they get pulled off the bike. They were bought for function alone.

I have the Cortech saddlebags and sport tail bag. I have toured many thousands of miles with them and no problems. I do not use any brackets, I just make sure that they won't work their way into the rear wheel. I line the middle of the bags up so they lean on the springs of the rear shocks. Yes there is a little wear visible using them like that. As for capacity, they where able to carry everything I needed for a week and still had room to spare. They are not water proof, but rain covers are supplied. I can attach and remove them in seconds, removing is much easier.

When I'm not using them, they sit in the garage waiting for the next time. On a scale of 1-10 I'd give them a 9.5
