Alloy Tanks

I did post this elsewhere but thought i would ask with a new thread.

Many of us would like an alloy tank and make our Bonnie/Thruxton just that little bit more 'Cafe'.And we have all heard stories of how long we have had to wait for some tank makers to produce such an item and not to mention the cost!

Now here is the question if Enfield can supply an alloy tank for the Bullet cafe Racer then why can't Triumph do it for the Bonnie/Thruxton???
They must know that the Bonnie/Thruxton are bought by people who like nostalgia, would like to relive yester year. Then why don't they make an aftermarket Alloy tank? They would sell hundreds.I would be willing to pay £600 for one because i know it would fit and work.I would also have it in less than 12months!!

So does anyone on this website know anyone at the Triumph R&D department...???....If so,HAVE A WORD...

An alloy tanked Thrux would make a great special edition bike - much better than those paint job special editions. I think it would require tooling and manufacturing changes though - probably expensive to implement, but I bet it would cause a positive stir.

Id like to get a Alloy tank as well.
Im wondering if there would be a way to do group buy somehow to lower that cost....
Best price ive seen was 300 Quid ( i think thats like the British pound/Euro)...

My guess is that it would be very difficult (i.e. expensive), perhaps impossible, to make an aluminum tank that is adequately durable for street use. I suspect Triumph's legal department would have serious reservations about product liability issues and that Triumph engineers would have concerns about a high incidence of cosmetic defects. I realize that Enfield produces them, but they may feel that they are too small or their location makes lawsuits less likely.

Now a polished stainless steel tank, that might be a possibility. Hmmmm....

Yep,i'd go with a polished steel tank, wouldn't have to be alloy just as it looks like the old racing tanks of the Tritons ect..

Production gas tanks are plain ol' steel for a reason.

Aluminum gas tanks (polished or brushed) are beautiful.......until you "lay it down" or otherwise dent or mar the surface, then they never look right again. At least they never rust. It's a great aftermarket option for those who take this into consideration; the current prices make it more of a gamble than I'm willing to take.

Steel tanks on the other hand, are tougher, can be easily repaired by welding/brazing, dents can be filled with Bondo and repainted. But they also rust. I'm currently rebuilding a 1976 Yamaha RD400 and I've got this chore ahead of me. Stainless Steel is a good idea; but it's more expensive than Aluminum. Just my two cents......James.

I DID LOOK, WOW! It takes a true artisan to turn out work like that! I'd be sorely tempted; it's a good thing that I'm such a tightwad. ................James.

We've all looked at the tank shop et al. Too long a wait. Some people on here waited over a year. to me thats just no good. crap business considering how much they are.

A lot of cafe racers had fiberglass racing tanks. Ok so fiberglass is old tech but why couldn't Triumph produce a cafe racer style plastic tank? The daytona 955i I owned had a plastic tank so its legal and safe and I bet a lot cheaper to produce and buy.

Like these?

A plastic cafe race tank then please Triumph. I'll add it mine and Bonnie06s wish list we are preparing for the Triumph people at the Bike show.

Here's one for a Honda. Shouldn't be too hard to make em?
