New Special Edition Bonneville

http://www.themotorreport.com.au/457...cma-bike-show/

Another dull boring effort. What, is the engine/ frame/suspension etc etc etc sacrosanct. For goodness sake Triumph, you can do the Speedtriple and Roadster. Nothing exciting with the Bonneville..EVER. Oh, it's 2020, should we change the paint......again.

I agree a bit dull. How about an assembled in England bike with upgraded exhaust, suspension, metal bits were it matters. I'd pay more for that. Call it the deluxe, or something like that and charge a premium. Maybe every year you have a new period paint scheme, and make a limited number.

I think it looks alright, but yep, it's just a paint job and seat.

EDIT: re-read it, now I get it.

the pale blue is reminiscent for sure, but I'm underwhelmed, to say the least. The triple at least got suspension upgrades.

I really don't know what kind of mods or extent that the urban sport and cruiser crowd do to their Triumphs, but it seems to my naive sensibilities that Bonnie, Thrux and the Sram folks live to modify.

Can't say for certain, but in another thread I suggested that maybe one reason the Bonnie comes as standard as possible with few substantial upgrades may be because the Triumph folk know people will modify them.

Let's face it. If I were manufacturing a product and I knew most of my clients were doing several modifications to suit their needs, I wouldn't think of upgrading anything. Why would I go to such expense if the parts I provide are going to end up on ebay or someones garage floor.

That would be money wasted out of my profit margin

I think the current Bonnie is selling really well and they don't want to mess with it. Upgrades will definitely affect their current price point and that may push some potential buyers away.

Interesting how they also mention the partnership with Ohlins for the Urban Sports range but meanwhile how many of us here have swapped out the stock shocks on our Bonnies for Ohlins or something else.

Actually back in the day the old Bonnie was selling really well for years with just a colour change and then errr, things changed. I know the counter view of why change is not a good thing, that's fair enough i guess and as folks say well, there is the after market route, true again. But i think there are a significant number of people, especially in respect of the engine, who do not want to modify stock - they want to customise the rest. I know its an endless argument but it would be nice to have a stock factory bike which had more power and leave lots of opportunities for everyone to customise the rest of the beast. Yamaha and BM can make exciting twin engines why can't triumph exploit the potential of theirs is all I am saying.

Maybe Triumph aren't too interested in serving a mostly older age market which will probably decrease over the years. What we are given, in addition to plentiful suppliers of custom parts is enough? How do you modernise retro before it's not retro any more? Look what debate the introduction of EFI has caused!

Best of all, it’s production-ready and it’s going on sale.

Anyone seen this yet? Should Triumph go down this line with a Bonnie? I think of it as they sell a blank canvass for us to modify to suit our personalities. Though if something like this came along from Triumph I would be tempted. By the way getting Staintune RC's fitted in the morning with the Arrow 2-2 remap.

I like the special edition Bonnies. I also really like that special edition S3 - it's dang hot.
