I just got in from my evening commute. About 99 degrees F outside. On the corners my tires felt slippery, almost as though I was riding in the wet. I thought my tires were melting, but I think it's more likely that oil from the asphalt is rising onto the road surface. What do y'all think?

Exactly the situation.We have that problem here a couple hours a year.

Hey Allan,

I agree, the road feels wet when it's this hot. I think the worst is those places like the north end of Mopac, where they've drizzled hot tar into the cracks in the road. If you stand on that stuff your boots leave tracks in it. I prefer riding on concrete slabs in the summer.
