Parts and suppliers`will remain nameless.

Parts are exactly the same and made by the same company.

US price US$430 + Shipping = A$632.

UK price Pounds 210 + Shipping = A$432.

You can guess who will get my order.

What country is the part made in??

If it's made in the UK, of course it would be less expensive to ship directly from there to you rather than it being routed through the US, another distributor and then on to you...

The parts are made in the UK and I can see your point.

That is not always the case. My wife and I spend 6 months of the year sailing the Barrier Reef on our 36 foot yacht. Last year we decided to replace our wind instruments with some made by a company in New Zealand.

Price in Australia = A$800.

Price in the UK = A$500.
The instruments went half way around the world and ended up A$300 cheaper.
Can you work that out.

The UK seems to have gone from being the most expensive place to buy (particularly luxury goods and hi tech products) to being, at the very least, competetive. If you want TVs, white goods or cameras the UK is the place to get them.
It wasn't always so and much headway could be made on the price of fuel and energy but I guess that is down to greedy government who specialise in taxing life's essentials.

The simple answer is that the pound has collapsed against pretty much all currencies over the past year by 20-40%.

Two years ago my wife and I went to England for a week. The exchange rate was roughly $2 per Pound Sterling, ouch!! Today it is more like $1.40 per Pound.

The week prior to England we spent a week in Ireland. At that time it was around $1.30 to the Euro. Now the Euro and Pound are almost the same. We will go back to Ireland, great place, nice people, fresh Guinness.

From the U.S. = AUD562 (incl delivery)
From Australia = AUD795

Several lifetimes ago I used to fool around with Volkswagens, I required a set of bigend bearings for an engine I was rebuilding so I walked 2 blocks to the local Repco Auto Parts store to get a set. Turns out they had none in stock so they would have to be ordered up from the south - about a 2 week wait - so I declined.

I then walked another 2 blocks to the local bank and had a bank cheque made out to Claude's Buggies (in California I think) stuck it in an envelope along with a short note stating my requirements and walked across the road to the post office and sent it off.

Two weeks later the bearings arrive and I unwrap them to find that they are Repco bearings made in Tasmania???? The local Repco store wanted AU$30.00 for the set and I paid AU$15.00, including all of my costs, for the same thing all the way from USA. Those bearings had crossed the Pacific twice and still came in at half the local price even though they were an Aussie product to begin with!!!!
