HP
I don't understand why people are complaining about not enough HP on the new Bonnie, when Harley's giant Road King (which I owned for 4 years) has the SAME HP, and does quite fine, lugging an extra 200 lbs of bike weight compared to the Bonnie !

I don't understand it either, but hey, each to their own - we all want different things I guess.

The Road King has a lot more displacement and torque to lug that extra mass around. That said, does your new Bonnie feel appreciable faster than your Road King?

Relax, You made a good choice
steelwheels - Don't worry, I'm sure that you'll enjoy your Bonnie. I have enjoyed my 06 T100 these last few years. I have owned many motorcycles, mostly japanese. I am one of those people that looks at the Bonneville engine and thinks - What wonderful potenial it has. Why did triumph stop at 865cc and 60-65 horsepower. How difficult would it be for them to bump displacement to 1000cc, and drop in a 6th gear, call it the Speed Twin.
However, I love riding, Looking at, and listening (staintune exhaust) to my Bonnie every day. I never once regretted the purchase.

you can't even begin to compare the 2 engines realistically.
The bonnie has a short stroke and a 4 valve head, the HD has a long stroke and a 2 valve head. HD displacement is for all intents and purposes twice that of the bonnie. Too bad HD can't get a 4 valve head going on their bigtwins...they'd be bad ass!
The peak hp numbers might be similar but hp doesn't matter, torque does, and the HD has it all over the bonnie, on paper anyway. You're right though, because the bonnie is lighter and nimbler it gives a more rewarding spirited ride.

For the same reason that people argue that a Hayabusa or ZX-14 is better than the other cause one will go 186 mph and the other will "only" go 185 mph; they just don't get it.
The very fact that you are here shows that you "get it."
I don't understand why Maury Povich does an hour long show about DNA testing every day, but I guess I just don't get that either...

My work truck [for 10+hours a day] has a GVW of 24,000 pounds, has 200hp and goes 75mph DOWNHILL. My Bonnie weighs 425 wet and has about 50hp. I don`t need another 25hp to make me happy when I ride.

steelwheels.
Because they like to pretend they are fast. Like wire guards over Land Rover lights that will never see anything rougher than the mall parking lot. Same thing really. Not that tinkering or modding for more power is posing.I don't mean that at all. Thats fun, creative - interesting. But I think most of the people who ride a Bonny on Saturday afternoons will never ( and should never) use all the power it has. The one exception may be high speed interstate highway touring. Why someone would buy a Bonneville for that is beyond me, but they might need a little more HP.
