Why no Speed Twin?

Just wondering if anybody knows. Seeing as how Triumph has a habit of "recycling" it's model names, why didn't the Speed Twin ever come out? If anything, the Thruxton really ought to be the Speed Twin IMO. It's a great name for a great bike.

Triumph used the Speed Triple and Speed Four names, why not the Speed Twin?

Would also have been nice if they'd recycled some of their TR names. IIRC the Scrambler is a modern version of the TR6, I think that would have been a cooler name than "scrambler" which is more of a generic name for a type of bike rather than a proper model name. It would be like naming the new Thunderbird the "Triumph Cruiser."

Just my $0.02....

It's all market driven. They analyze the market, and decide what will / won't sell, and base product lines around it. They must not feel that a speed twin - in whatever form - is viable at this time.

Riders of a younger vintage have never personally experienced the "scrambler" adjective placed on a bike. They may have read about it, but never witnessed it.

By naming their modern version of a high piped dual sport the Scrambler, Triumph have taken all references from the past and made them their own. Young pups reading about bikes will see the scrambler adjective used and assume they are talking about a Triumph, or that triumph invented the genre.

Ditto

Who says Triumph is done naming bikes? They may be saving the Speed Twin moniker for something yet to come.

as a speed twinner myself i'm just glad they didnt use it on the ghastly new cruiser, which shouldnt be called a thunderbird ethier.

i'm not sure what it should be called but sometging distinctly American really.

i wonder if they are keeping speed twin for the new 500 which would be spot on really.

Oh I man I love Speed Twins. I think that would be a great name for the Thruxton but in the Thrux's case you have two names that have a ton of heritage and since the Thruxton name came from the late 50's and used through the 60's it probably works.

None the less - I would love a speed twin.

I suggested "Thunder-Glide." Hey, if you're gonna steal Harley's styling cues, why not steal the naming conventions too?

Personally,I'm hoping(and I think I'm right)they're saving it for a full litre size,liquid cooled,100+ HP twin,in a Speed Triple type chassis.

Or,maybe a T-Bird engine in a frame like that.Done right,I would find either one acceptable. They might even get another chunk of my money.
