Just bought myself an immaculate 1200 trophy. it's a 1996 but has only done 13,000 miles and looks/rides like a six month old bike.
I've only ridden it home (30 miles) but there are a couple of points I'd like some advice on.
First, screen, is there a replacement taller screen available?
And second (and slightly worrying) there seems to be some instability at high speed (100mph+) is this a Trophy thing or could it be the tyres/pressures?They are brand new tyres on the bike but I haven't looked what type yet
The bike has just been serviced/mot'd by a reputable dealer so I guess I can rule out mechanical causes
Any advice appreciated.
Thanks
Simon

Hi Simon,
Nice bike - mine's a 1995 :-)
Certainly check those tyre pressures as soon as possible. I suspect pressures are your problem, but you at least need to eliminate them as a cause early, in case you have a warranty issue with the dealer - eg, steering head bearings.
(I know you'll check them before each ride - right??) OK, OK, I admit I only check mine once a week, but I don't ride a lot in the week, and anyway two wrongs don't make a right.
Did you have luggage fitted? Might have had an impact if topbox was loaded.
Certainly my bike is very stable at high speeds, and my tyre pressures are close to the max recommended.
Regarding screens - I bought my bike with standard screen & a taller screen included. I've actually now cut down the taller screen, to about 2 inches lower than standard. This for me has given me the best ride, moving wind buffetting from helmet to shoulders. (My taller screen, before I hacked it, made the wind bounce off my head worse than the standard screen. (I'm only 5'6" by the way.)
Remember to check your suspension setup too, if you've just got this bike. Play with the settings to get it right for you.
Happy Riding,
Martin.

Thanks Martin, I'll certainly check the pressures before I ride again.
What do you keep yours at?

Mine are at 45 rear, 40 front. But you should go by the MAX PSI printed on the sidewall, and not exceed it. Choose a PSI at or under the max, and try it out. You'll soon know when its right. Itwill vary from brand to brand, and tyre model within brand.
Also, I carry luggage & these tyre pressure settings are in preparation for my jaunt up to Sctoland later this week, two-up & fully loaded with three boxes & a tank bag.
I may well drop a couple of PSI on the rear afterwards.
When I picked this bike up the rear was at 30PSI!!
Martin.

Stock Bridgestone BT020's or the older BT5x tires that come standard on the US version recommend 36psi front/41psi rear.
What tires are standard on the UK version?

Trophy's are bad about catching wind. This could of been you stability issue. I love mine.
BTW welcome aboard!
