900 engine question

The rpm's on my 900 drop very slow when I pull in the clutch. I changed my air filter last week, so while I had my carbs off I checked everything. Throttle and choke cables, return springs, I even had the carbs disassembled to check the slides. No change upon reassembly. What am I missing? Other than this the bike runs great and gets 50 mpg.

Is the choke cable back properly in it's hole on the carbs? Other than that it sounds like a lean condition. Are you sure that all the carb boots are tight? After putting mine on last night I don't think it'd be possible to not get one on correctly and have the others all fit but...I've been wrong before.

Another thought just hit from perusing old threads. The choke rail didn't get bent did it? Have you physically watched the enrichener valves go back when released?

Just tossing thoughts out here, good luck!

Thanks for your input. I've checked everything you mentioned and then some. With the engine off I can work the throttle and see everything open and close. There has to be a simple explanation! Has me stumped....

Another question is,. Is the throttle snapping shut ? Can you hear it hit the stop ? Wind it wide open (engine off) and let it go you should hear quite easily a clack when the thottle lever hits the stop.

The throttle snaps closed with a loud clap every time. I did a 750 mile trip this weekend and the bike ran great except for this annoying glitch. Anyone else every heard of a triple doing this?

my 1200 does it too. even when i pull in the clutch, the RPMs go down slowly. when i adjust the idle screw down the engine sounds much better but then it wont idle. then i turn the idle up so it will idle correctly the RPMs take forever to go down, it just kinda floats there. is this how your bike is acting too??

sounds like you are as frustated as I am. My bike idles around 1000 rpm untill it warms up, then it floats while I am riding. Once I stop, or blip the throttle a few times it returns to 1000 rpm. I never mess with the idle adjustment.

carb kit time

So I have had 4 900s 1 96 speed triple 2 96 daytonas 1 2001 trophy and they all side slow back down. I did carb kit upgrade on my 96 900s by upgrading to the dyna jet kit. Jets and Needle. You get a drill bit to drill a small hole in the slide. This greatley improves the throddle drop back. You will not be sorry to invest. The kit makes the engine run snappy and no flat spots. That and a K&N and you will be happy. They run a little lean out the box from triumph.. but don't they all... Hope this helps.

that was the answer I was looking for! I knew someone out there had some firsthand information on this problem. I already have a K+N and will check into the carb kit. thanks alot......:

Where would one get more info about this Dyna Jet kit. How much, where to buy, installation help, etc.?
