last month, I took a little 800+ mile jaunt down to Florida. I had a slight problem mounting my left saddle bag when I left. For the return trip, I could not get the bag to fit into the latch. it lacks about 1/8 inch, and try as I may, it won't go. I can see no place for adjustments. Has anyone had similar problems? The right bag and the trunk latches work fine.
Brolane, Some times the bikes are definitely "balky" fitting back into the latches. There's no adjustments for latch placement from the factory, but if necessary, you can file some slots (carefully, of course) into the latch mounting plates to allow you to relocate the latch slightly. I had to do this on one of my bags, but I had the opposite problem -- one of my bags' latches was too loose! I needed to tighted it up to keep from loosing a bag!
You coming back down to B'ham next October for the Barber Vintage Festival? Its' the 3rd weekend in October.
Hello Jack (you can't say, "Hi Jack," because of the TSA),
Yes, I plan to be at Barber's in October. I haven't checked, but when do the tickets go on sale?
Thanx,
Lane
brolane, I have a 96 1200 , and both my latches keep popping up. I have to adjust where the bags are seatred by pounding lightly on the back or front of the bag. The Triumph dealer said I could adjust the screws on the back of the latch. I tried, but you can only loosen and tighten the nuts. When I did this it helped keep the latches from popping open. Maybe if you loosen then tighten them it will chase the gremlin that's blocking the way.
Maybe the J-hook thing on the bag got banged out of shape? Compare the angle of bend and length to the bag that still works. They can be tweaked a bit and it's not noticable until you compare it to another.
